frankencar intake questions

A couple of questions regarding the frankencar intake:
1. Do I need to make any special brackets to keep the MAF from vibrating?

2. Which filter keeps more dirt out of the engine, the Apexi or K&N?
This is the most critical requirement for me. A stock filter only lasts me 8-10 months (~12,000 miles) due to the driving conditions in my area. I knock the dirt out of the stock filter about once a month and there is always a bunch of dirt in it.

3. Can you hear the intake at normal highway or city speeds? I do not want to listen to the car whistle all the time, I just want a bit more power.

4. Is the frankencar intake compatible with the various FSTBs that are available?

5. How many miles will the Apexi last before it has to be cleaned?

6. How many miles or years will the Apexi last before it has to be replaced?

7. How many miles will the K&N last before it needs to be cleaned?

8. How many files or years will the K&N last before it needs to be replaced?

I decided not to purchase the injen since it hangs low and I frequently go through low water crossings.

As always, thanks for the info. This place is one of the reasons I have a Maxima.

Ill try to answer as many as I know in order...

1: If you use the filter that comes with the intake be it the K&N or ApexI, you should not have to.

2: They both keep dirt out pretty well, there was a site up a few months ago which showed which filter traped more grams of dirt and if I remember correctly th apexi filter beat the k&n. I cant use search so I cant find the site. If some1 has the link please post it.

3: The K&N does wistle slightly at first but on mine it went away. You cant hear the intake all the time, only when you get on it. That being said when im going about 70+ my car is usually above 3000rpms and above that regardless of how much you get on it your gonna hear it but trust me its not anoying in any way. You will like it, the apex filter I have heard is actually quieter the the K&N.

4: Works fine with mine.

5: 10-15K

6:

7: I live in AZ and its dusty as hell here, I clean mine every 10-15K just for the sake of keeping them clean. K&N however says the dirtier it gets the better it filters so im not really worried about it, they recommend you clean it at 50K. I cleaned out my throttle body at 25K and it was the same as any normal cars so its up to par to say the least.

8: It has a 10yr/million mile warranty does it not?

1) If you want to keep the MAF from vibrating, go buy the Altima ribbed tubing from DaveB here on the org. The Maxima one is way too large for the FrankenCar midpipe and the Altima one fits perfectly.

2)The Apexi keeps alot more dirt out of the engine. I have a link to some tests, but I'm at work now and I'm leaving for Japan tomorrow.

3)The intake is very quiet when driving normally. When you get on the gas the intake sounds extremely deep. It's not a Ford V8 deep, but it's a very nice sound. It does not sound like the fart can Honda's and other 4 bangers out there.

4)Yes it's compatible with all of the FSTB's. The problem with FSTB's is hood clearance. I have a Stillen and it fits perfectly.

5)Just depends on how dirty it gets. Although it's supposed to be a lifetime filter, I would probably clean it the first year and replace it the next. This all depends on how much dirt accumulates. I've had both the Apexi and K&N and the Apexi is definately a better made filter.

6)Refer to 5

7) Refer to 5. Since K&N has a cleaning solution to clean it's filters it does a more thorough job.

8)It should last you until you sell the car.
