Well last nite I lined up w/ a 02 or 03 GT mustang and went from a light. By 80mph or so he was a good 2-3 cars ahead of me.

WTF is this normal? Or can i not drive stick for S#it? I did spin a lil bit from start. I launched at around 2k.

 

well....a stick mustang GT can definitely take a 03 max....they are very powerful off the line due to the rear wheel drive....but 2 or 3 car lengths? must be modded....

 

he said all he had was an exhaust.

I think it would have been more like 1-2 car lengths if i had a good start.

 

Let's not forget the gobs of torque as well.

 

yeah they definitely have tq advantage over the max....but considering it's a V8....it's kinda under-powered!!!

No such thing as a GT with a V6.

 

Or a good case of V8 vs. V6, and that Maxima is in fact beatable!
I don't think someone should expect to beat a Mustang everytime.

Not trying to start a flame war here, but did I miss a recent thread or something? Why would you expect to beat a new model GT with a 2k1? You have FWD, less HP and TQ...?

The older GT's (especially the autos, which are dogs) are a lot easier, but even a 2k2 / 2k3 is going to lose the majority in this scenario (assuming equal driver skill). And if he's 2 - 3 lengths ahead of you at 80, that means he's...(calculating)...around four tenths of a second ahead? Hardly a spanking...

do you happen to know if it was a bullit edition or a mach1? im sure he would lie anyway and say... oh yeah i have a v6 bullit. do you still have your stock rims on? if not, then maybe your new rims could have hurt you.

 

A 2k or 2k1 Max has no chance against a new GT with the stick. I think he should be glad that he didn't get beat by more car lengths. It's hard for a FWD sedan to compete with a RWD, V8 powered coupe with tons of low end torque.

 

first GT are rear wheel drive, they are lighter, and they run bout 269 hp,
unless u got a supercharger u wont be able to beat the GT

Why some are making posts that do not relate to the topic? Igor has 2k2 6 spd w/ only 2k mi on it. The engine is barely broke in, and Igor is learning his way with stick. Iggy-go on to carpoint.com and check out what kind of engine did recent years Mustang GT have. There is no way 6-cyl Mustang can win over stick Maxima unless boosted.

You can't drive or he has mods, either way sounds like a good race.

2K2+ 6sp vs. '99+ GT is a drivers race stock vs. stock, but it's MUCH easier to get out of the hole in the GT so they will win most of the time.

In most cases a 6 speed Max is going to get owned. Everyone seems to believe their 6 speed is capable of 14.1-14.2@98+ because a few have done it. Most stock and mildly modded 6 speeds are good for solid 14.5s@97mph. The 99+ Mustang GT 5 speed while close in performance to the 6 speed, is still a bit quicker on average. Sure it only has 260hp, but it's massive torque advantage and RWD propel it to quicker 1/4 times and MPH. On average, a 99+ GT 5 speed is an easy 14.0-14.2@100mph car. Good drivers grab higher 13s@100mph+. A 6 speed Max with intake getting beat by a 5 speed GT with exhaust is no surprise to me at all.

My friend with a 99 GT ran a 13.8x with just some flowmasters (which probably did nearly nothing for performance), I'm really not sure why you're so surprised you lost. They are fast cars if driven properly. I bet the guy had some mods he wasn't telling you about as well, since he lied about the car saying it was a v6.

 

well looks liek the previous two said exactly what i was going to say - you might have abetter chance on the highway like i did when i raced a GT - but from a roll all i have to say is - 300ftlbs and RWD - GG - get some nitrous and race him again

99+ GT would whoop azz on a max. They are v8 beasts. 0-60 in 5.5.
The older GTs however will get their azzholes ripped up.

 

13.83 in an '00 GT here. Best I've seen stock was a 13.82...

 

I can relate. I raced a 00 Mustang GT 5-speed when I first got my Max a few weeks ago. By 80 he had about 1 1/2 car lengths on me. I actually expected to beat him by a little. After reading this thread, I'm not so surprised anymore. I just have more motivation to start modding this beast.

Going from stock 27lb wheels to my new 19lb wheels should make a diff
