I just like knowing that my family sedan can keep up with a GT sports car... and then carry a couple people comfortably in the back and cruise while listening to Bose can't beat that ya know? On the topics of mustangs, an older 5.0 raced me yesterday (it was modded a lot) and the thing just roared and all I saw were tail lights. I only did like 60-90 (crappy part of my powerband) and flashed him cause i didnt feel like goin 100+ while he just kept his to the floor and musta hit 130 or so... dont like people like that, tryin to do the ricer fly-by in a non-ricer car... but anyways, just goes to show V8's can scream and they're easy to mod. Still ove Max though!

I've had three Mustangs with V-8s. They are pretty quick. The mods out there for them are sick. If you think Maxima people mod there cars, just take a look around at all the things available for Mustangs.

I wanted 4-doors and some comfort. I'm to the age and point in my career where I can't pull up with a Mustang and look respectable.

Just my $0.02 of course.

Yeah, it's nice to compare the two performance wise b/c the Max can do pretty well against the GT's, but if the mods and drivers are equally classed, then the Max is going to lose 9/10 times. Plus the aftermarket is really geared up for the GT's in a way that the Maxima will never be. It sucks, but it makes modding the Max all the more special IMHO due to this very fact. When you find a Max that can kill newer RWD musclecars, then he/she deserves the ultimate respect b/c most of the mods on the car are probably NOT bolt ons (like most of the GT's). They are custom engineered pieces of art. Anyone can take a GT and throw heads, headers, exhaust, cams, TB, injectors, and an ECU and get a fast car, but doing that to a Max, well, that's a different story...

Yeah manual to manual the GT might edge out a 6spd but the autos are another story. They are dogs and feel like it, they have very crappy gearing and an 02/03 auto should be able to edge on out and a manual 02/03 beat it.

Sure it only has 260hp, but it's massive torque advantage and RWD propel it to quicker 1/4 times and MPH. On average, a 99+ GT 5 speed is an easy 14.0-14.2@100mph car. Good drivers grab higher 13s@100mph+. A 6 speed Max with intake getting beat by a 5 speed GT with exhaust is no surprise to me at all.

hahahaha, you took the words right out of my mouth dave B! glad to know were not all bias.

plus, you said he had an exhaust. those engines take very well with mods, so with an exhaust and a decent driver he can see 13.7-14.0. compared to your max with an intake which is good for 14.3-14.5

but hey, you lost, but you kept up with a lightly modded V8 rwd muscle car. not bad.
