2000 maxima questions...

I just bought a 2000 maxima GLE, 27,000 miles. I only got 1 key fob, and I was wondering if I should buy one online somewhere, and bring it to the dealer to have it programmed or should I try to do it myself using the instructions on this site? The dealer told me they had none in the parts department at the time. Does anyone know what site I can buy a key fob from? Also, I did not get an owners manual, where can I purchase that also? Anyone know an approx price for each also. Thanks.

Owners manual:
http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/nissa...p?dept%5Fid=37

You can also order hard copy from them, but why pay for it.

key fob= ebay. I believe a 2K2-2K3 one will work as well. the dealer has to program it though.

Buy a FOB off of ebay. Way cheaper, and then you can reprogram it yourself. Just have to have all the FOB's with you at the time.

i bought my 2000 used as well and had to do the same thing.

you can buy a key fob from ebay for around $10 (dealership wanted like $100!). then just take it to the dealership and have them program it ($20 or so). not sure about programing it yourself.

your old/original one will still work fine no matter how many others you get.

you may also be able to pick up a manual on ebay as well. if you have to order a new manual (like i just had to for my new Infiniti QX4, be prepared to pay about $40)!

Manual from Nissan is like 24 bucks shipped. I just purchased one for my 02. Thing is.... they're on backorder
I'm getting pieces shipped to me (not costing me anything more)
I figure I'll have it in afew weeks. I like having the new manuals rather than online. They send you all the books and the case.

Frack1217,

You need to have all of your Keyfobs with you if you wish to program them yourself. You can *as i remember* program up to 4 Keyfobs only. All 3 keyfobs (your old one + 2 from eBay) will work as when you re-programming, u need to do all of them at the same time. If you don't, the old fob won't work.

Just look for a link on the programming instructions, won't cost a cent!

hope that helps...

Thanks for all the info, I will definatly buy 2 remotes off ebay, and program myself. I have another question, my 2000 maxima, 27,000 miles squeeks preety loudly, when i hit the brakes, right before stoping. The brakes work great, and the rodors dont look warped or anything. My sisters Altima does the same thing, is it just brake dust? Or should I get it checked out?
