Have there been any auto----->6-speed conversions?

I was just curious if the tranny conversions have been happening on the 2K2s and 2K3s. It's so hard to find a 6-spd for sale, so I want to know if the conversion is possible.
If so, how much does it cost for the whole deal?

i only know of one person...jeff from maxx tuning swapped to a 6-speed on his 4th gen. the travel of the shaft is different, he had to drill into the firewall and etc...
but he did it. he did say it was a PITA.

WHY is the question

after the cost is figured out, it's cheaper to get a 6-spd off the dealer

Because 6-speed manuals are hard as hell to find. The extra money spent on the conversion makes it all worthwhile. I searched autotrader.com yesterday and came up with over 100 2K2s and 2K3s within 100 miles of me. Guess how many were stick. NONE.

Is only the 6th gear overdrive? Does your engine have enough power to justify the 5th gear? ie.. top out in 5th? Depends on the gear ratios I guess. If 5th is 1:1 and the 4 gen 5th is about 1:1 also, then yes. If you don't really have the power to pull in the new tranny's 5th gear, no point IMHO.

I don't think you guys are understanding the question. I don't want a 6-speed in my 4th gen. I wanted to know if anyone has done an auto to manual conversion on their 3.5 5TH GEN.
I want to get a 2K2 or 2K3 for my next car, but I really want a 6-spd. Now I was thinking that if I can't find a 6-spd, maybe I could swap in the 6-spd tranny.

Thanks for the link, but I'm not looking for a new car yet. Probably in a year or so when I have the money saved up.
The purpose of this thread was basically just to see whether the the tranny swap was possible on the 2K2 and 2K3.

Another year or so? Oh, hell, by then the '05's and maybe even some '06's will be out...by then at least 2 things will likely happen:

1. '02-'03 owners will be trading in for something else since they will driving around in 2-4 model year old cars and you will likely find used ones more easily

2. YOU will find something you like better and don't want to fuss with converting the car

Bottom line is why worry about it now?

looks like noone on .org has attempted the conversion on 2k2/2k3, because of the feasibility. If you won't be able to find any 6spd for sale, get an automatic and just have the tranny rebuilt.

The ONLY way this would be worthwhile is IF you have an auto 2k2+ and you have some serious mods that can't justify reswapping. AND you get some type of KILLER deal on a parts car. AND you know exactly what you are doing. AND you do excellent(factory looking) work. See how improbable that's looking now?

If you don't have the car yet, it's 10x easier just to bid your time and wait for the right car to pop up. Just be ready to go when the time comes. TRUST me. This will avoid TONS of dissapointment later.
