custom maxima FSTB install question?!?!

OK, i know its an easy install, everything went great until i closed my hood. Now my hood doesn't lay flat like it used to because the fstb is knocking up against the hood insulation.

I even cut out some squares in the insulation where i can see that its been pushed up, and now my insulation looks like **** all chopped up and my hood still isn't laying flat

anyone have this problem?

Ok, i'm not a newbie here, i have like four threads saved on my computer about installing the progressive RSTB and obviously the search option is down. I don't recall anyone having trouble with the clearance from the RSTB and the hood insulation.

Wat kind of Front Strut Bar did you purchase? Was it made for the maxima?

It is from customaxima.com, and yes it is for a maxima, its a progresive one. I mean i can still close my hood but it
just pushes up against the hood a bit.

Mine looked like it was going to rub but it actually doesn't. When I installed I was careful to adjust the nuts on either side of the bar so that it was tight and even on both sides. You may want to start there and see if it helps.

Hct97, give the guy some slack. it's an honest question. I've got the FSTB installed trey and no problems with rubbing. Double check your install and call custommax, they are more than willing to help.

i just installed the custom max FSTB and mine was actually too low.. and its pushing down on a part of my engine.. but it wasnt too high?
i would suggest tweeking the length of the bar on each side..

Ok, problem fixed.

1. I have the right FSTB just a bit higher then most for some reason.
2. The insulation isn't really strong enough to push the hood up but a little clip that holds the windshield washer hose was. The clip lays behind the hood insulation and lines up with the FSTB so i removed the clip and Bingo! the hood lays nice and flat again.

got to love aftermarket! its always an adventure

FSTB

I highly recommend you installing the rear one as well from Custom Max. It makes all the difference in the world. You're half way there!

Disagree....spend the money on an RSB instead.

Do you know of any companies that sell a good RSB at a decent price?

That's what I got and it was well worth it. The CustomMaxima guys were helpful and it must have shipped out the minute after I ordered it because I got it in two days. One of my U-bolts was badly threaded and I had to go to Home Depot to get another one - but beyond that, installation was easy and it was money well-spent (~$127).

I've heard about this several times on the .org but I'm not sure what some members have done to correct it.

But it is somewhat common...

You do know that there's a difference between the RSB and the RSTB, don't you?

But it is somewhat common...
Some have used a washer on the strut bolts (between the FSTB and the body) to raise the bar by + or - a hair to clear the intake and others have just played with the bar orientation and centering with good results.
