Still can’t wire Speed Sensor after conversion

I recently did a 5spd conversion in my 2000 GLE, but I haven’t been able to get the speed sensor to work. I got a pinion type speed sensor, but my mechanic is having trouble wiring it. The problem is that the speed sensor won’t just plug in to the wiring going to the ecu. The speed sensor has two wires but the place it needs to plug in to has three wires. My mechanic tried to wire it with all the possible combinations, but it didn’t work.

Any ideas??? I tried to message Kevin since he’s done this on a 2000, but he’s never on AIM. He said before that it was plug and play, but apparently its not. Do I need an adaptor or something? Maybe someone could check under their hood and see how many wires they have on their speed sensor and what kind of plug it plugs in to. Kevin, if you read this, could you check your wiring for me and see how this is connected?
Thanks

Maybe this will help:

It seems that VSS signal goes into instrumentation cluster first and only after that - into ECU.
