Please Help! Engine Light On...

Hello,

I have been told that I can find out exactly what is causing the check engine light to go on. I know that it is near the gas pedal and it will beep which can be translated to a code. Can someone help me locate this and how to check the code. Also, where could I check the code online?
I am afraid to take the car to the dealer since they seem to rip me off everytime. At least i will know what needs to be fixed.

Thank you very much in advance for any help!

Laura,

Like he said, go to your local autoparts store and see if they can pull the code for you.

Then come back here and post it.

Get the code, otherwise it's NOT WORTH guessing why.

Just go to the dealer, are you still under warrenty? My SES light came on about a month ago and they fixed it for free even with my intake and exhause.

Check your gascap. Mine went on the other day, unscrewed my cap and put it back on and the light went off about 10 minutes later. Simple.
