About cabin air filter?

I read yesterday inside the glovebox and it says that you can wash the cabin air filter? Did anybody ever do it?
What do you wash it with?

Thanks.

Danny - didn't your mother tell you never read while you're in the glovebox? It's bad for your eyes

Seriously...I replaced the cabin air filter with a new one last week - just bought car for my wife and she wanted to get rid of the "odor". Next time around I may try to clean rather than replace if a good method comes out of this - new filter(s) cost me $41. I'd be interested in what you'd use to clean microfilter media - I coulda sworn my sticker said replace. Maybe I oughta climb back in my glovebox and read it again...it's REALLY dark in there.

Yeah I was thinking to replace it too, but it says on the sticker that you can remove it and wash it. I think I will try that.

Just like with a K&N filter, use hot water and soap... then put it near a vent in the house for it to dry quickly.

I washed my 2k2 cabin air filter but there was no label in the glove box saying it was possible. I did it because the new one was $50 from the dealer and was a paper element filter. The OEM was a synthetic folded into pleats with no edge frame so I just dunked it in the sink and washed it in soap and water. Then I dried it in the sun and put it back in. It was pretty grey with dirt and came fairly clean. Airflow did show an improvement.

My car had a cheap one piece filter that is washable. I replaced it with the two piece charcoal filter which I don't think is washable.

I washed my filter in a bucket water and dish soap (no, I'd never use that on the outside of my car). Despite my repeated soakings and running it under the water a bunch, it still didn't get that clean, but was definitely cleaner.

Instructions

As far as washing it goes, if it's carbon or paper I wouldn't. A synthetic one should be ok and you might want to use some bleach in the water to kill any mold that can cause odors.

Also the search function works great on the test site. Call DaveB for any Nissan parts you may need. Good prices and great service.
