Good price for 2001 AE 5 speed?

I need some help.

Used to have a 96 SE 5 speed, but had to give it up for a truck (new house). I miss the max too much and am looking at getting another. What would you offer for:

2001 sterling mist AE 5 speed. No leather and the guy said it has a premium stereo, but not the bose (I think he is full of crap). Has the moon roof and 33K on it. He said it is clean in and out. It is also at a dealership and they are asking about $19k. What do you think it is worth? I don't want to get hosed! Edmunds has it in the low $18k range.

Thanks and it feels great to know I will be able to have fun driving again.

He's askin way too much for the car. You might as well be looking for 02's.

Are you sure it's an AE? Someone correct me if I'm wrong but didn't AE's only come fully loaded..?

That's way too much, locally i've found a "Nissan certified" loaded 5spd AE (Auto climate controls, heated leather seats, bose, etc.) with 20k miles for $20k - and even then i think it's too much.

I would offer them $17,500 and use the Edmunds as top range.

My 2000 SE was only $14,300 with 40k miles on it back in Dec last year...

I thought AE's did come fully loaded... hmmmm

Most of us who own them got them loaded, but they actually were available without leather, etc.

from the Nissannews archives:

The 2001 Maxima is available in four models: the well-equipped GXE, the luxurious GLE, performance SE and the SE 20th Anniversary Edition, which includes all of the standard equipment of the SE model, but adds the SE Comfort and Convenience package, the 227 hp V6, viscous limited-slip differential, bright finish 17-inch wheels, a body spoiler package including side sills and a rear under-spoiler, Bronze-colored headlamp lenses, simulated brushed-metal interior trim, brushed metal-look shift **** finisher, drilled metal pedals, perforated leather (with the available Leather Trim Package) and special "20th Anniversary" badging. In addition, a special color is offered for the SE 20th Anniversary Edition - a highly chromatic Dark Blue.

Many option packages are available on Maxima, including GXE and SE Comfort & Convenience Package, Meridian Edition, SE Leather Trim Package, Power Glass Sliding Sunroof, Z® Edition traction control system and the Bose audio system (SE, standard on GLE).

The 2001 Maxima is available in eight exterior colors and three interior colors.

I haven't seen it, but dealer in Portland, OR is advertising an AE, fully loaded, for $199xx. It's been in the paper for a while. I'm sure their negotiable (oh really??).

Get me the VIN and I'll find out what it really is. I have never seen a non-leather AE. I think jjs is correct tho, I think it was technically possible- but no Bose, too? Hmm-

DAVEB,

VIN: JN1CA31D71T818566

Car ran well, but he did not want to drop much on the price. I am going to hold out for the Bose and Leather. Maybe I will get lucky and find an '02 6 speed at a good price. Manual in the 5th generation are not so easy to come by around here.

Wow, a base AE! That car is really an AE, but no leather, Bose, or sunroof. One of a kind, I guess!
