Paint Problem On 2003 Maxima
Ok, I got my Sterling Mist 02 Maxima in April of this year. It was a Demo from the dealer. I put my first coat of was and really detailed the car a month ago when I noticed the right side of the car. The black Rubber Sealers around the door handles. On the drivers side they were painted. Anyways, I really took a deep look at the drivers side and could tell it was repainted. So I took it to the dealer and they had a Nissan rep come out and look at it. Oh my rear bumper was messed up too. It had two fade marks where the paint really never took. So the Nissan Rep said they would fix the rear without a problem but as far as the drivers side, nothing they could do as it has 12,000 miles on it. I was ****ed!!!! They tried to tell me that the car was used when I brought it!!! Ok, it's used but I brought it with the new sticker on it and a full warranty. This is ****ing me off right now. Anyways, the service lady said she will talk to there paint shop and see if she can get what she says is a one hand wshes the other hand type deal for me to see if they can repaint it without charging . Well I searched the warrany book anddidn't find anything. The drivers side has blotching, valley's and so on. I just never noticed it till I fully gave it a great coat of wax. Does anyone know what I can do ? Has anyone fought Nissan or a dealer to get the paint fixed on there car? All help is really appreciated as I believe this is a nissan problem if they sold me a car that was either in an accident or damaged at the dealer. One more question, Will carfax tell you if the car had a prior owner?

Very tough lesson... it may be that the car you bought was re-sprayed to fix dings that it acquired on the car lot. Back in April when the good maxima deals were in full swing I rejected a silver/frost '03 SE because of a ding/chip in the driver door. The dealer said "no problem, we'll get it into the body shop first thing Monday morning...". No way was I going to pay $23,000 (cheap) for a new car with a non-factory paint job on the driver door (color mismatch, texture mismatch, durability mismatch, etc...). I walked. I learned this lesson back in 1985 when I bought a black Golf GTI and let the dealer re-shoot the right front fender--I mean its simple non-metallic black, right? Color never matched and I couldn't believe my eyes six months later when bits of the paint starting flaking off the repaired fender. Guess what was underneath--glossy black paint. Not scuffed, not primed, not prepped at all--probably still had wax on it! No wonder the new paint was flaking off. Too bad--but the truth is you cannot duplicate the application of factory paint. Factory paint prep involves acid etching, cleaning, electrostatic coating, clean rooms, computer controlled environmentals, robotic application... none of which can be duplicated in a body shop. Frankly, I don't understand why so many .org contributors are so casual about allowing their bumpers and hoods to be repainted. It will never be the same and Datsun knows it and they should be compelled to do something about it. I'm afraid that you will have to get used to hearing "meets industry standards" fom your dealer when you complain about the paint.
