Severe hesitation on a 2K

My wife has been driving the 2k for the past few months (I have 76k on the car). I drove this week and noticed severe hesitation when I floor it. It seems ok down low and when I hit 3500 - 4000 rpm up to redline it hesitates and feels like I'm pulling a trailor. I thought it might be dirty fuel injectors and had them cleaned but did not help. I have no clue of what this could be. It runs fine when I take it easy - does not miss or no hesitation. But under heavy throttle 3/4 up it hesitates. Any one else experience this problem or can lend any opinions?

I had the same problem...
I went to nissan and they said it was a bad MAF
Mass air flow sensor
But it could be many other things too...that was my problem

Could be a MAF going out, the ignition coils, a dirty throttle body (VERY dirty), or your fuel filter is starting to clog. Possibly even something else I am missing.

Hesitation as in car seem all of a sudden loose power? If so then it could be fuel filter. Cleaning the MAF and throttle body can't hurt with throttle body or carborator cleaner. Try giving it a little gas at a time. If it accelerates fine, but if floored and it hesitates, then the fuel filter could use a replacing. But as others have said, coils or MAF. Tranny (fluid)? did you say it was an auto?

upon reading your thread again, yea, seems like fuel filter to me. A friend of mine's 92 had a severe power loss if you floor it. Changed fuel filter, power came right back better than ever. It's like tugging a rope. If you pull it slowly, it'll go, but yank it (like flooring the gas pedal) you can't make it go.

Had the same problem...Take it to NIssan and tell them your problem you are experiencing...For mine they replaced some solenoids in the tranny comp. and it has run perfectly ever since...

Like others have mentioned could be MAF or coils mine did the same thing and threw no codes in the comp because MAF did not fail completely. I did the same as you had fuel sys cleaned, then I replaced the plugs and it helped but wasn't still wasn't right then finally went to the dlr and had the Maf repalced after they found it to be bad also had a bad o2 sens got car back and replaced coils just as a precationary measure(got an updated set very very cheap) and car runs so smooth you can't tell its on. good luck

Thanks for the input. Is this a dealer thing or can I buy the part and install?

The maf is realativey easy to do just be careful the sensor is very tempermental, I think the part is arround $100 call Dave B 18882546060, as long as youve got the maf off you may as well clean the throttle body and be sure to replace the air filter with new maf. I think there is a write up at motorvate.ca on how to clean the throttle body.

I had the same problem on my 2k. They replaced MAF and the rear Oxygen sensor, then re-programmed / updated the ECM. This cost about $500 total, but it runs better than it ever has. Didn't want to spend that much, but I'm very happy with the results.

For the TB try this it's an easy procedure...
http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/517
and for the MAF try a search, I wouldn't do this unless it was absolutely necessary

sorry guys but im not sure how my car was new, so im not too sure if im experiencing the same problem... when i go to floor the gas ill go off the line and get around 40 mph, around 5 1/5 6 rpms, then it jus like sits there for a while doesnt shift but kind of like sounds lik its being restricted, during this period ill still be accelerating in speed but the shift isnt happening. i always thought it was a restriction nissan put on but i dont know if its the same type of hesitation that bl00se has or if its actually supposed to happen. would appreciate your input guys lemme know if you need a better description, sorry but its hard to describe it.
