Thanks
i doubt it will help any on the 3.0 because the anniversary cover only covers the 3 front coils and not a considerable portion of the motor like the 3.5 does. it wont come off the same way either. its either 10 or 12mm bolts, 4 of them i believe instead of allen wrench.

No, you do not have a cover on your engine.

I'm having a hard time following your logic. You probably spend more time cleaning under your hood once a week than it would take to put your cover back on. In the time it takes you to do your cleaning I'll have put my cover on, pulled my intake, put the stock airbox back in and if I'm not already at the dealer when your done I will at least be on my way.

And are you going to buy another one for $150 or more so you can look stock after you take the one that has 2 4x4" holes cut in it back off.

1. You want to cut holes in your engine cover, yet you want the car to look stock for warranty work?
2. You don't think cutting holes it would look more ghetto than if you were to just remove it?

It seriously takes 3 minutes to take the cover off.

i have a sapre cover i bought at a junk yard for 15 dollars, it was basically brand new...thats why i started thinking of it this way

its not like its gonna cost me a lot of money to cut the spare one up..plus i can make the grill mold into the cover for a clean look

So this really helps keep the engine cooler? I havent ever looked at the temp gauge really to see what it stays at. Does this really gain a lil power?

i doubt that will help anything. only thing that will do is make it easier for dirt and other crap to get near the coils.

jeepik, as much as I'd like to I won't throw a rofl up here on ya. Yes it would help some but it will still reflect heat back into the motor. How often do you have your hood up?
Has anyone thought about drilling some cooling holes in the cover and installing round louvers like those used on house attics. Say, about 2" diameter?

Thanks for the reply and offer, but I guess I should have mentioned that Turbo95Max (Matthel) can get these brand new for $98 + shipping. I was hoping to pay less than that for a used one

I'll pay $75 + shipping for a used one if it doesnt have any blemishes on the surface

Would the heat that was trapped by the engine, now being released effect those that have HAI? Unless the temperature is extremely hot, most engine w/the water cool system, should be able to dissipate the internal engine heat without effecting performance as long as the temperature gauge is registered within the "normal" range.

The plus of having the engine cover on MAY help the paint of the hood. You all know how crappy our car's paint is!

maximaman777 has had his off for over a year IIRC with zero problems in regards to the paint issue. And for the record, it does keep the engine temperature down by one full needle mark as compared to stock. I am impressed, to say the least...

You guys are so lucky to have a 3.5 since mine doesn't have a cover. I have wondered if the cover is made of plastic, because it would be surprising if it did reflect a lot of heat, in fact, the cover would have melted. Right guys?

Not a full year but the last 6mos at least, the hottest part of the year anyway.

Yes it is made of plastic. You would be surprised how far technology has come with plastics. There has even been an internal combustion engine made of hybrid plastic.

The car already has valve covers; this cover is purely for esthetic purposes. The reason it holds so much heat in is not only because it traps air under it, and this would be a very small part of it. It has to do with it reflecting radiant heat back to the engine. Any one who has sat in front of a fireplace knows that your skin gets warm in a very short time but if someone or something blocks the fire, even a simple sheet of paper, you can instantly feel the difference. It's the same thing here. As far as it melting just remember that same piece of paper can reflect quite a bit of heat away from you without bursting into flames.

Cutting holes in it or anything else people have said will do nothing but ruin the cover.

Yes, there was another guy talking about this recently. He described it exactly like that too. I believe he spilled oil or something on it. I don't think there is a simple fix for this.

I took off my cover also and went as far as to take off the rubber gasket on the back of the engine where the hood and frame meet, it came off easily. The way I look at it is the air coming over the hood and over the windshield should create a vacume to pull the hot air from under the hood. I don't notice too much difference in the temp guage so I might be delusional but I'm happy anyway. Any thoughts????

I have also removed the cover as well as the rubber seal at the back of the hood. I do not get any hood shake and it really moves the air.
