No dyno's other than my butt. I do have proof of my increased MPG though. I keep track of that religously. Mine increased on average 2-3 MPG. It's enough for me.

Weird, you know, I took off my silencer/ramscoop entirely (left the IAT/MAP sensors hanging), and my last fuel mileage check revealed 27.9 miles/gal (I've run consistently 25mpg since my hypergrounding & ECU reset).

I haven't reset my ECU after removing the silencer, but I'd imagine the ECU has adjusted by now (long term fuel trim, at least), though I'll have to hook up my OBD-II scantool to verify.

I'm seriously pondering buying an intake... like the Injen (more low end torque == )

ok...Don, you convinced me! i did a version of this last night to my 2k. i used 2.25" black shop vac hose instead.

since my 2k has the intake opening on the bottom of the stock intake (the one that has the elbow that then goes to the silencer/resonator), i simply removed that elbow and connected my hose there. my hose was about "14 long and then ran straight down to the plastic splash guard/under-pinning shied thingy under the car.

i just drilling a 2.25" hole in the shield and then inserted an 8" wide shop vac attachment (the thing that fits on the end of your hose on a vacuum...it is about 8" wide and 2.5" tall with a 2.25" connection) into the hole and connected it to my hose inside the engine bay. it make a great intake eye and doesn't look as ackward as a piece of gutter or dryer vent hose hanging out.

that was all there was too it! it was very easy to do and DOESN'T look ghetto at all! you can hardly see the intake/vac head thing that comes out under the car. and wouldn't know the vac hose was in the engine bay at all unless you were looking for it.

i haven't had a chance to really test it yet to see if it make any difference on the butt dyno. either way...i think it is cool and maybe it will help me with some gas mileage.

it didn't provide that much of an increase in sound as i had hoped...so, i may do the GAB also for some increased engine roar.

i didn't have my digital cam on me...so i didn't get any pics for a how-to. but, i'll be happy to provide more detailed directions if anyone is interested. let me know if anyone wants some pics of the end result for reference.

thanks for everyones input!

Man this is crazy... when I saw that first pic I thought this was a joke, seriously. I guess whatever gets 'er done though... I wouldn't do it, but whatever. I'd be afraid of sucking up some water, my friend just drowned his civic doing something like this.

/ON SOAPBOX ON/Different strokes for different folks. I had a OSCAI since I bought the car and only a month ago got a custom intake put on. I used 4" rigid aluminum ducting and the only comment I ever got was "thats freaking huge!"... This stuff about not being able to drive god's chariot unless properly modded is bunk. If I have the keys to it I will do as I please. Didn't anyone's parents tell them that unless there was something nice to say don't say anything at all? What is the purpose of ragging on people? I know it wouldn't change MY decision on anything I did or do.

Maybe you should call it a HAB (Hooptie Air Box). Good creativity but not so good or appealing for the Max.

This is slightly off topic, but I wanted to make sure you guys saw a new GAB setup I'd put in place on my car. You can see the thread with a link to pics here:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....0&page=1&pp=30

I found that a short intake was better than a long intake. The gutter might be good, but I'd worry about sucking in water . . . Changing the stock air box by cutting a hole in the top seems like a bad idea - could cause a loss in low end torque.

Using your brains, creativity, and intelligence to create and invent built the would we live in today... don't bust on people for trying to be creative. You can laugh at me because I 've got the most expensive GAB around... my Injen was making my car ping like crazy so I went back to stock, used the elbow section from my Injen and connected it to the stock intake like "ABS" It works fine and adds a little power. That's about a $325 GAB...lol. By the way my bro lives in Farmington, and I lived in the Hartford area from 88-92. Had a lot of fun in downtown Hartford.

Don...so, you just bypassed your intake silencer (and the elbow that went from it to the intake)? did you close up the orignal intake in any way...or do you just have the air coming in from both sources?

and you didn't have to do anything special with the maf sensors or anything...the ECU just resets itself/adjust to the new amount of extra air flow? this will NOT damage the engine in any way, right?

what are your thoughts on doing this AND the thingy that you cut a slot in the top of the airbox. GAB, i think it is called. worth doing both or them together?

and noise...i'd like some more noise! wonder which gives the most sound factor - ghetto intake, the opening in the airbox, or both?

If you're going to do the GAB, do it like I did and make it look presentable. I didn't block up the stock inlet, I just left it as it is. All the parts came from Home Depot. The bottom piece is a drain cover that has been gutted to create a round hole. The setup works perfect.

Link to pics of presentable GAB

Wow I admire what he did, at least he put some thought into it. I mean hey it is original, I once saw a civ hb with a gutter body kit (it was supposed to be a lip). I'd never put that crap on my car, but still gotta wonder what people will do next to their cars with gutters..Ha

Water can't make it all the way up the tubing. However, I do have to clean the filter with every oil change because it gets really dirty in one corner of the filter. The engine also gets air from the stock location, the lower intake portion is in addition to the stock intake at the hood. I am not sure on turbulence issuse when the two air flows meet, however, I do feel an increase in my top end without any sacrifice of low end power.

BTW, I have my Stillen pop charger sitting in the garage. That thing is a POS for around town driving and when you have a load and are going uphill. I had it on for a trip to Vegas with three people and luggage and we couldn't even break 100 going up one of the highway grades. Took it off right when I got home and went back to the GAB with no regrets.

This looks kinda funny to me. In my case I have a regular Ram intake setup with the stock resonator intact. I took off most of my plastic splash guards on the bottom of the engine because they were hanging/warped etc. Im thinking it wouldnt be a bad idea to stick some sort of vent hose behind my valence grille and run it up just underneath my ram air filter..but not attached to it. This has gotta help bring a rush of cold air up there doesnt it? Seems like simple physics...
