I wouldnt put that on my car. Are you crazy? I paid 31k for my Max. I dont think Ive seen any IS300's or any G35's or any other clasy car with a campbell soup can hangin underneath my car. If you can afford to buy a clasy sedan like a Max , and you have to do that to it, sell it and go get something more in your " Class " range. Steve, the intake you guys do in AZ does NOT look like that ! I can just imagine rolling to a club with that crap stickin out my car !

i think he did a smart thing.. instead of payin 300 bucks for an intake.. he make his own and he's getting the same gain.... if he could only find a way to hide the scoop... but other than that i think its a smart thing to make your own intake

I'd leave the gains up to the real dynos, not butt dynos.

1 acronym, PVC.

It fits better, it's just as cheap if not cheaper, can be filed and shaped, bent if needed, but most of all when painted it can look any color custom or damn near stock when black.

I'll give it one month before a curb knocks that think off. Been there, done that.

Yeah, that's pretty friggin ugly, but if you are really into performance, that intake works better than any of the current ones available.

I'll give you an "A" for ingenuity, but an "F" for fugging ugly, just kidding... good idea but I'd look for an alternative to the downspouting... you never know when some fat frog might think it's nice place to live and you sucking him into you air box

I've hit da damn thing 5 times!!!
Remember this is the first mod and I wanted to see how it would go
and the scoop is like 5 bucks and can be replaced easily
in the snow I can just pull off the scoop and still have the down spout pulling air from the bottom of the car
I might try taking to scoop off to see the difference
Then no one will be the wiser

I'll know. So is the finished product or just the proof of concept prototype?

Try using a HVAC 90 deg. register box for the scoop and connecting it to 4" PVC piping. The splash gaurd should be cheep if you ever what to replace it. Some hose clamps a couple of fittings and a can of paint you'll be good to go.

Butt dyno's don't count - but if you like it then by all means go for it. At $6 it certainly doesn't hurt anything. Chances are you may be getting a "boost" from ram air intake. Faster you go, the more air gets "forced" into the intake runner. This CAN boost hp by a couple of ponies, but you'll be hard pressed to test this on a dyno unless you can provide lots of wind.

As for the lower RPM at steady speed - I dunno how that pipe changed your gearing. Unless something changed in your transmission, the speed of the engine at a particular road speed is pretty much fixed.

If you're getting better gas mileage then that's great! With premium pushing up close to $2 in some places I'm for anything that'll help mileage without adversely affecting driveability.

Honestly... I can do 120mph at 6500rpms in 3rd but im not in the mood to get another criminal speeding ticket otherwise id go out and try right now Im guesssing after it shifts into 4th it will be at apprx 4600-4800rpms in 4th were I pulled to over 130. Next time im on the freeway and its empty Ill see, it doesnt take too long. It probably will be aroud 4K at 110 in 4th, im not saying thats not true. What doesnt make sense is saying it used to be at a diff rpm be4 and now its diff. More power you will have but diff gearing?

I'm new to Maxima.org Forums. Just wondering about unplugging your transmission sensor on an auto. Is that a good idea? Also, wouldn't you risk sucking water into your engine with your GI (Ghetto Intake)?

"I Have unplugged the transmission sensor which allows quicker shifting with the auto."
