maxima is gone for good

sold the 01 maxima SE with automatic. car was fairly slow (IMO) with the automatic, rode like a tank with the optional sport package and got sucky gas mileage using premium fuel.

03 honda accord EX v6 now in the driveway -- 5 speed auto, 240hp and runs on regular fuel.

see you guys in the funny pages, or every other time your at the gas station.

shame too as this board has improved greatly in the past few weeks. seems the cry-baby newbie haters have left the building......

The new Accord has an AWESOME interior. My friends mom has a 2k3 with black leather and navigation...and wow, excellent fit and finish. The exterior is ugly as sin IMO, but the engine has nice mid-range punch. It's a torqueless wonder off the line, but once you get going, it scoots along nicely!

sport package in 01 is optional.....included the 17 inch low profile, hard to find and expensive BLOWtenzas

and yes, the outside of the accord isn't the best, but its quicker and nicer on the inside than the 01 max

Why didn't you opt for a 2002-2003 Max? Makes ~50lb.-ft more torque and is a better engine, and is a lot faster. It's much sportier looking too.

C'mon gang!!

Honda DOES make some pretty good stuff. I have yet to see any, let alone reliable, 4 wheelers, yard equipment, generators, etc. made by Nissan!!

If it weren't for the price and the lack of a stick, I would likely now be in an '01 TL-S.

As for Accords, the recent designers should be taken out for eye exams.

Accords are nice cars but we drive Maximas on this forum lol. Don't say your v-6 Accord has much better gas mileage. You need to check the gas mileage rating on many popular 4 bangers and you will see that they are not much off Maxima's 21/27 mpg.

All highway, if i did mixed city/highway i average in the mid-low 20's. All-city brings it down to the upper teens.

Add DTE and Trip comp, divide by 17 gallons

Honda

Damn, I thought the Honda Accords were a family car or at least a womans car. I'm sorry but I average about 27mpg to the gallon. If I wanted to save on gas milage I would have gotten a bicycle!! Just had too, sorry didn't means any crudeness to you but the accord and maxima, two different cars. Not even close to being =.

What would I need 4 wheelers, generators or lawn equiptment for, I hire people to do all my work. I might own a Japanese car but I still try to buy as much as american as I can.

there is nothing wrong with his car. try doing all of your driving in a congested northeast city. during the winter, i get about 200 miles per tank. fuel runs rich when it's cold out and the car is first started, and my trips are usually less than 25 minutes (i'll probably cover 4 miles in that time).

when i do a roadtrip or do mixed highway/suburban driving at my parent's place on long island, then i average 25mi/gallon or so. the conversations that have come up about fuel economy these days seem to ignore driving conditions. people's definition of "city driving" differ.

the maxima's fuel economy is about average. you know what gas mileage you expect when you see a type of car, so i don't see why there is much fuss about this.

Good luck with the Accord! May have a little less power on the low end but the suspension has to be much better.

Now to soundmike....30mpg I could only dream! Best to date is 24mpg and that only happened once.

well its good to see there are some crappy members of this board left....and RICE comes in all varieties buddy. some also seem to have more money than brains or energy.

and the maxima was my wife's car -- not that this needs any explaination. i always hated it. read the board to see what else was going wrong with it. nissan quality now resides behind GM!!!!! think about that the next time your car is in the service bin. new maxima is ugly and the 02-03 still had the solid beam axle. isnt that standard equipment on the dodge caravan????? many other reasons though too -- crappy local service depts, chipped paint, etc.

also, on the highway, the maxima NEVER got over 23 MPG -- again on premium fuel. around town -- about 18. this car isn't fast enough to have either necessary

Read the accord V6 manual again -- the brochure for that matter. all 240HP come on 87 octane.

and i got $15000 on trade with the car needing 4 new tires. not great, but the accord came at invoice.

this is my last reply. good luck to the open minded on this board. its not apparently welcome. i like to believe that all manufacturers make at least soemthing that is decent.

what are you talking about? no one said anything blatantly unwelcome or aggressive. this is a MAX board, there is gonna be slight bias, but you are being overly sensitive. in fact, you're actually the one that opened this thread ripping on the max saying it was "slow", "rode like a tank" and had "crappy gas mileage". it's "slow" because you're comparing an 03 accord with a '00 maxima. your logic is completely flawed because saying that a '00 accord was slow compared to an '03 max would be completely asinine.

the maxima is allowed to run on regular fuel...EPA measures of gas mileage are similar, you're going to get similar gas mileage out of an AV6 unless you change your driving habits.

both cars have their strenghts and weaknesses, people on this board readily admit that. just don't claim everyone is being close minded when, in fact, they're not and you're the one who actually instigated whatever slightly biased comments were posted.

It depends on alot of things.

1) Ambient Conditions
If its hot and humid, you will lose MPG due to the humidity in
the air and the less efficient combustion.
2) The quality of gasoline and presence of oxygenates
If the gas is of poor quality and contains oxygenates (all the
gas available in miami is like this) you will lose approx 10%
of the range per tank.
3) The type of traffic you're in
Really bad city traffic and bad highway traffic cause you to
get on and off the gas and brakes frequently. This causes AFR
spikes and murders our MPG.
4) Driving Style (the easiest to control)
If you really arent agressive with the throttle and brakes
and you drive around the posted speed limits, your mileage will
be much better than the rest of us leadfoots out there. Also, if
you can time traffic lights to where you can hit a lot of them
green and not have to stop, your mileage will go up.

Those ppl who get like 400-420 miles to a tank drive less aggressively and consequently get better mileage. Also, if they live
in a dry climate with moderate temps, that helps alot too. Extremes kill gas mileage.

I actually just convinced one of my friends from Dallas to get the new Accord Coupe 6spd. It's being built as we speak. I think it's a damn good car for the $25K he's payin for it. He was considering a 2000 Audi A4. He got so much more car for the money...

There is too much body roll in the Accord when you take corners fast, the Maxima leans less and feels more nimble in spite of its bigger size.

Sweet. I love how you define the 2 engines as "same". 222 vs 240. Ha! Torqueless wonder....

And there isn't in the rear beam axle 4th-5th Gens? I say it again, the '03 AV6 handles better than the comparable 5th Gen. Body lean may or may not be worse, but those are facts.
