Clutch Fork Squeal

I have a 2002 Maxima 6spd with about 60K km. The car has been making this squealing sound originating in the engine bay. At first I though it was the belts. I then one day discovered that if I put very light pressure on the clutch pedal, while the car is in neautral and idling away, the squealing sound goes away. That ruled out the belts. I took the car into the dealership and they are telling me that under the rubber boot that sourrounds the shift fork a little lubrication would cure the squealing sound. I’m skeptical and wondering whether more than just lube would cure the problem. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Wolfmanjack

Hmm, do you have aftermarket intake installed? I had some creaking clicking sounds that were because of that.

If not, lube might help. Where is it sound coming from?
Near the clutch pedal?

No aftermarket intake installed. The sound is definitely coming from the engine bay where the shift fork is located. Standing in front of your car looking at the engine bay, the shift fork is located right behind and slightly to the left of the battery. The shift fork (I don’t know the exact name) allows the you to engage and disengage the clutch via the cable or hydraulic line that leads all the way back to the clutch pedal inside the cabin. By placing my hand on the shift fork the and applying slight pressure, the noise goes away. As soon as I release the pressure the noise starts up again. The question is now, is the noise being generated at the shift fork or more inside the clutch assembly (plates, throw out bearing, etc…)???

Cheers,
Rudy
