Umm, something doesn't sound right.. 93 taurus with a 3.2 rated at 220hp/222tq. If its an auto it tips the scale at 3450ish? I don't see how you could take the max with that thing.

Go to hertz sales and test drive 3-4 maxima... they love it when you do this. You will find a significant difference in performance between the samples. Some maxima are fast, some are slow. some ride rough, some are smooth. The fast, smooth ones with sunroof are hard to find (imagine that) unless they reek of cigarette smoke (which is my biggest issue with hertz cars).

You will love the sound of an exhaust if you put one on...its a nice deep tone...depending on what kind you get

umm here's the link to the msn autos website..
http://autos.msn.com/vip/engines.asp...d=1043&src=vip

the taurus engine from back then actually has almost the same power as the 2000-2001 maxima engine, although the taurus sho weighs more... maybe the two cars feel different, get someone to drive your sho, and someone to drive the maxima, and see which one is faster... gearing comes into play also... and as far as mods goes, you have 1 performance mod, which isn't really gonna make much of a difference... if you want to make your car faster than the sho, throw a y-pipe on there, they cost like 200-300 dollars and gives you a big boost in power...

ive got a 93 auto sho and a 00 5spd max. the sho kills the max nonstop, but its modded pretty decently, intake trans exhaust chip, things like that. the sho has a really funky torque hp curve, dual stage intake runners and all, so it feels much stronger than it probly is. with a little work my max will destroy my sho is the speed depatment, im like almost stock now. the shos got 220hp n 215lb/ft stock but gains hp really easily, but since its a ford, reliability will always hold them down, trust me i know these things

I had a '93 SHO before my Maxima...I loved it.
The FORD was falling apart around the YAMAHA engine, though.

I had a '90 SHO with the same problems.

The Camshafts on the 96-99 V-8 models go out. Makes the car basically worthless. I looked at a 99' before the Maxima, and it was fun to drive, but when I found out about the engines, I went looking elsewhere. Was fun to drive though.

YAMAHA just assembled the engines...

Ford built all the parts.

That's why it stayed together ....oh...does this validate the quality of cars "assembled" in the US?

Actually, that's not why it stayed together. The SVT/SHO line of engines are quite good in overall quality, and always have been. At the time, the short 60 degree angle of the V6 could not be assembled by Ford, and Yamaha was the cheapest contractor to do it.

Ford later assembled their own 60 deg V6's in the SVT and SE Contours (2.5L). Dunno why they couldn't do it themselves in the late 80's-early 90's though. They "should" have had the ability based on their European engines...of course, that could have been why they were only European engines!

Same deal with the bright red '93 SHO I used to own.
The automatics had a 3.2L for a bit better torque, the sticks remained 3.0L. Mine was auto...it felt about as quick as my Maxima, but the Max has it all over the Ford as far as quality. I actually think the SHO handled better, though
