deals on Canadian Maximas?????
#1
Hello Canada, I live in the Philadelphia metro area and was thinking about buying my new Maxima in the Toronto area. I heard the cars in Canada are fully loaded w/ 227 hp and buying one up there would be wayyy cheaper than buying in the states. For ex., im hearing from the Edmunds forum that a 2001 Max SE fully loaded can be had for around $23,000US, is this true or just a bunch of internet BS. I know the dollar exchange rate heavily favors the US $ at this time. I heard the only catch is a 2% fee at customs and a little paperwork and the Odometer converted to mph from kilometers. Emmisions are the same also. Where im from, a fully loaded SE would run me over 27k and thats without the 227hp. For $4,000 dollars, a weekend trip to Toronto to watch the Flyers play the Leafs will be well worth it. ;-)YOU KNOW WHAT IM SAYIN'!! Also what do the Acura TLs go for? Any help would be appreciated in advance.

I saw those posts on the Edmunds board also and was wondering if it was legit. Apparently, that guy has hooked up more than 10 people with great deals on Maximas and Pathfinders. The prices are thousands cheaper than here and the Canadian versions usually have more options that are considered stock. Several of the people he has hooked up have posted saying that it is all true.
He started posting about these deals back in October and I haven't checked the Edmunds board lately. It has gotten to be a real pain in the **** since they reformatted and 'improved' the site. Let us know how it works out.
BTW, if you want to see some good hockey while you are up there, wait until the Devils come to town.

Hi.
I just bought a 2001 Maxima from my local dealer here in Kitchener (about 1 hour west of Toronto) for 35237.56 canadian. This includes 966 for freight, 100 for AC tax, 75 for Fuel tax, and 149 admin fee. All that is missing is the 15 percent tax and rustproofing which I did not purchase. 35237.56 works out to a US cash rate of 22,427.94.
The model I bought is a 5 speed AE in Mystic Blue. It has all availible options.
Good luck.

Hi Ed. The figure sounds right. When I bought my Maxima, I was initially going to get an SE (and in Canada, the SE's are fully loaded; no more options to add) and had signed the paperwork on the condition that they can get a black one with black leather. Anyway, this was during the yearend clearance and they came back saying there weren't any left. So I got a GXE since it was the last black Max around the lower mainland (Vancouver, BC).
Anyway, here are the figures from the paper I signed for the SE (estimated US price in brackets):
Car Price: $33700 ($21870)
PDI & Freight: $800 ($519)
Documentation Tax: $125 ($81)
Battery & Tire Tax: $20 ($13)
GST (federal tax of 7%): $2432 ($1578)
PST (provincial tax of 7%): $2432 ($1578)
Luxery Tax (3%): $1041 ($675)
Because you're not a Canadian resident, you wouldn't have to pay (or pay initially, but would be refunded) the GST, PST, Luxery Tax, documentation tax, or Battery & Tire Tax. But if your State has these taxes or others, then those taxes would apply and your State gets the $, not Canada.
So the total without tax for a fully loaded SE would be $34500 CDN or $22389 USD.
Hope this helps.

Acura TL
Hi Ed. Didn't see your last sentence. The Acura 3.2TL goes for $36950 CDN (includes freight & PDI) or $23979 USD. The lowest I could talk the salesperson down to was $35000 (not including freight & PDI).
IMO, Go with the Max!

Yes, i would have to go with the Auto in account of my wife driving it occasionally. That price you gave for the Auto SE, is that for the current 2001 Anniversary edition SE? I see the MSRP AT $35800can for the Auto. Would you know what the invoice price in Canada is without destination/freight charges? I cant seem to get any invoice prices for Canadian Maximas on the net. Also i was told Acura dealers get penalized for selling to US buyers in Canada and Acura does not honor warranty if exported to the states, so the TL is out. Other than that i have all the instructions and forms on how to do a deal in Canada and getting the taxes rebated, just need more current price quotes to get an idea for negotiating, especially in the Toronto/Ottawa areas. Thanks for all your help.

my dealer's quote
he's in Cobourg, between Toronto and Kingston: Opal blue SE auto
34,300
966 freight and delivery
100 AC tax
75 Fuel tax
99 admin
there is a 15% federal and provincial tax but if you get those back, you're on the road price in candian dollars is
35,548. I'm not sure what exchange rates people are using to quote you your costs US, best you figure that our with your bank.
some places here will give you .48 cents extra on your dollar

These prices are all on target - under 35,000 CAD including freight, admin, and the gas and a/c tax. I can't tell you exactly how much I paid because I had a trade-in and it all depends on how much you allocate for the trade value.
Just a couple of notes though. In Canada, we only get the AE SE. There is no base SE. The AE is fully loaded (227 hp, Meridan, leather, Bose etc) but doesn't have the body kit like the US AE. The only option (1400 CAD) is the Auto w/ traction control.
The MSRP is 35,400 for the 5 sp plus freight, tax and admin fee.
Even paying full MSRP (and who would do that) you should be able to save by buying in Canada. But does anyone know why? Is there an import duty in the US or tax built in? It's hard to believe that this price gap is market driven.
BTW. Senators beat the Devils last night for first in the East. Why would you want to see a Philly/Toronto pond hockey game? And would Lindros be playing for either team?

Hi Ed. I got the auto because of my wife too. The price quoted was for a 2000 Maxima SE back in October 2000 (when I got my Max). September/October is clearance time. As for the invoice, I don't know, but when I bought my car, the salesperson basically said that they're clearing the remaining Maximas out, that he's not going to ****er with the price, and said that the price is $500 CDN over their cost. I'm not sure if cost is the same as invoice, but it must be close. The price is probably lower than other Nissan dealerships in Canada though because the Nissan dealership I bought from is the #1 Nissan dealership in sales and service in all of Canada so they get a better price from Nissan. Also, the US price I quoted is based on the current exchange rate from a Canadian bank. You will probably get a much better exchange from your US bank. Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks for all the help guys. So $35000 CAN for the 2001 SE Auto including freight etc. should be my target price,i take it. Thatsonly $22,946 (.6556) for a fully loaded SE. Around Philly that would easily run me $28,000 US and this is the AE model, damn. Tell Pat Quinn and the leafs, ill talk Bobby Clarke into trading Eric Lindros if the Toronto dealer gives me a better deal.
