living in Queens, NY (high HID theft area) I too was quite concerned about my HIDs seeing as how I have since returned to college to finish up my degree and I am now forced to park the car unattended...

I figure it this way....legally the insurance carrier CANNOT raise deductibles under a comprehensive claim (all thefts fall under this category)....

not that I want them stolen but, let them steal them....I will replace and I will keep replacing till the insurance decides to deny a claim at which time I ask them to pay my note off and let me get something new....

I am through sweating this small **** over a$$hole thiefs who can't spend $300 on their own lights...

Same story with shooting some1 who breaks into your house, they can and will sue your @ss and win too. Its bullsh!t but thats why you FINISH the job. If some1 breaks into your place and endangers your family either gift wrap everything for him and help the guy load it up in their van, or make sure you plug him in the chest a few times. Either way, no1s gonna tesify I belive its still considered private property when its your car but I could be mistaken.

NT2SHBBY: FYI-New each headlight assembly is $725 from the dealer.

I agree with Lumbee1, use that story lol.

I see at the very least 40% of all 2002/03 maxes in Brooklyn, NYC with 2k/2k1 headlights on...

I bet at least 30% of the others have also been robbed of them but chose to replace them with the factory HIDs. The other 10% park their cars in garages.

I can walk up to 10 random 2k2 2k3s on the street and see marks on 6-7 of their hoods and bumpers from the theives...

if not for this, i would very seriously consider a 2k2 max as a future car. I still do, but first thing i'll do is convert it to a 2k-2k1.

Was this in the Bay Area by any chance? I'm a little concerned now, being that I am a resident of San Jose and have a Max with HIDs.

This happend in one of the LA counites...now I knew it was a matter of time be4 it started there too but in LA its gonna get nuts. There are more people in LA then NY and I think it might even be a bigger problem in the near future there, then it is in NY currently. I hope not, but if it does my car sure as hell isnt coming down there again for a while.

That means we Chicagoans have a lot of reasons to be concerned. It's a matter of time before things that hit NY and LA start jumping off up here.

Same goes here in St. Louis...I'm not TOO worried since we moved out of the city right before I got the '02, but when we lived in the city sh!tbags tried to jack my Cherokee and even broke into my Festiva (!) to get some cheap stereo stuff. AND my house was in the good part of the city (south) and had a 2-car garage, but the "good cars" were always in there. F'in thievin bast@rds - GO GET YOUR OWN SHEIT LIKE THE REST OF US

By the way - VERY nice catch with the dog...and if the f@cker tried to sue I think I'd hunt him down and finish what the dog started

19-year-old Carl Truman of Los Angeles won $74,000 and medical expenses when his neighbor ran over his hand with a Honda Accord. Mr. Truman apparently didn't notice there was someone at the wheel of the car when he was trying to steal his neighbor's hubcaps.

Case 2:
Terrence ****son of Bristol, Pennsylvania, was leaving a house he had just finished robbing by way of the garage. He was not able to get the garage door to go up since the automatic door opener was malfunctioning. He couldn't re-enter the house because the door connecting the house and garage locked when he pulled it shut. The family was on vacation, and Mr. ****son found himself locked in the garage for eight days.
He subsisted on a case of Pepsi he found, and a large bag of dry dog food. He sued the homeowner's insurance claiming the situation caused him undue mental anguish. The jury agreed to the tune of $500,000.

Case 3:
Jerry Williams of Little Rock, Arkansas, was awarded $14,500 and medical expenses after being bitten on the buttocks by his next door neighbor's beagle.
The beagle was on a chain in its owner's fenced yard. The award was less than sought because the jury felt the dog might have been just a little provoked at the time by Mr. Williams who had climbed over the fence into the yard and was shooting it repeatedly with a pellet gun.

That's the best part about the story. If something happened to the dog it would hardly seem worth it.

Now as far as the guy taking action against you, I would not really worry about it. The pry-bars in his hands are weapons and all you have to say is that your life was in jeopardy. When your life is in danger you are legally allowed to defend yourself with deadly force.

Also, others made a good point. Kill the guy next time. That way he can't sue and it's your word against his. I remember back in high-school my business law teacher told us it was illegal to shoot someone who broke into your house once they were outside. He said if you do "MAKE SURE YOU DRAG THE BODY BACK INSIDE!"

It's too bad that honest people who have worked hard for the rewards in their lives get screwed over by people who think they can take what they want. I honestly hope there are no legal implications for you. It seems as though civil lit is sometimes so unbelievably backwards. Best regards and good luck.

Time to award the rottie with a nice porterhouse steak! I have a German Shephard that I have trained with police trainers to K9 specs. I would love to release him on a thief, I'd say KILL KILL KILL But thing is here also, unless YOU are endangered ya cant hurt em, the thief didnt.. as courts would say "DESERVE" that kind of "Punishment" for his attempts. Blah I wish I were in TX.. But glad to hear you have your property and he was pinned with other charges.

You let the dog out to the bathroom - not to go sick the guy. The dog did as it was trained to do, to defend the house.

If you have homeowners insurance and you get sued you insurance shoudl cover it up to a certain limit, if you have the correct coverage. You need to consult with an attorney immedately and he'll advise you on what you need to do to get your ducks in a row in case the scumbag sues.

If the sonofabit sues you, you countersue claiming intentional infliction of mental distress. The sight of your beautiful Maxima being dry humped by a crowbar had to have been very stressful indeed.
