I would have been more satisfied if you had got your gun out and shot each one of his fingers, one by one and then shoot his toes. Then put leaches over his body and peel it off one by one, while shining a bright hid light at his head. Then you tortue him some more by putting hot coal all over his body, then put dry ice over it. Repeat the process for 10 times. Alas, make him apologize and cut your yard's grass with his teeth.

That's awesome. Hope ya gave him a kick for the rest of us.

I live in CA also. I went to 3 Nissan dealers in the Bay Area and asked about getting the HID Theft deterent kit installed. All 3 Service Mgrs looked at me like i was crazy. They'd never even heard of it!!!

They all said they've never replaced a pair of HID's that were stolen from a '02-03 Maxima.

I shrugged and said "Oh well, I guess it's an East Coast problem"

But after reading your story, I'll bet those Svc Mgrs will soon be replacing HID's

In Texas, leave your garage open, with HIDs facing the street and you can shoot anyone dead who comes inside.

I was recently at an East Coast (Jersey Dealership), and he had 4 Maxima 03 Demos left... all of them had the HIDS stolen right on the lot!!!! Dealers here have to replace them on their OWN cars!

I was at subway one night here in south miami, and some fool tried to get mine. This guy musta been a dumfuk cause the car was all alone and the from of the place is all glass. The car was parked right by the front door.

I saw him go for the door handle and i managed to sprint out the side door and caught him. I had my umbrella in my hand (its one with a metal point) and stuck him in the back with it. He nearly shiet in his pants. He bolted before i could grab his shirt.

Luckily he wasnt armed, and there wasnt any damage to the car.

...has anybody traded in their max (one's w/ stock HID's) for another car just because of this HID thieving? man this sh*t is getting to me... i can't be worrying about my car each time i take it out! i've been thinking of trading it in for quite some time now. i love my max, but i can't enjoy it with all this crap going on. i'm about to travel to the west coast (for work).. i thought that it may be a "safer" place, so much for that... i know that i can just change out the HID's, but that's one of the main reasons why i bought it... i'm off to the dealerships again as soon as i have some time off. f*k!!... sorry had to vent...

Good job, Jesse. Way to put it down for us HID owners. What part of Cali do you live in? I never really felt concerned about my HID's but now it seems hitting closer to home...

FYI: He will sue you and get your house, your maxima, and your girlfriend

Case 1:
19-year-old Carl Truman of Los Angeles won $74,000 and medical expenses when his neighbor ran over his hand with a Honda Accord. Mr. Truman apparently didn't notice there was someone at the wheel of the car when he was trying to steal his neighbor's hubcaps.

Case 2:
Terrence ****son of Bristol, Pennsylvania, was leaving a house he had just finished robbing by way of the garage. He was not able to get the garage door to go up since the automatic door opener was malfunctioning. He couldn't re-enter the house because the door connecting the house and garage locked when he pulled it shut. The family was on vacation, and Mr. ****son found himself locked in the garage for eight days.
He subsisted on a case of Pepsi he found, and a large bag of dry dog food. He sued the homeowner's insurance claiming the situation caused him undue mental anguish. The jury agreed to the tune of $500,000.

Case 3:
Jerry Williams of Little Rock, Arkansas, was awarded $14,500 and medical expenses after being bitten on the buttocks by his next door neighbor's beagle.
The beagle was on a chain in its owner's fenced yard. The award was less than sought because the jury felt the dog might have been just a little provoked at the time by Mr. Williams who had climbed over the fence into the yard and was shooting it repeatedly with a pellet gun.

Jesse -- you may want to chat with an attorney. I wouldn't put it past the thief to come after you for his medical bills, whether he is convicted or not.
He may even come after your dog as a deadly weapon that was not registered. Now don't anybody get the idea I agree with any of this it's just that in CA this stuff happens all of the time and the victim gets hosed!!

Jesse had to let the dog out to go use the bathroom. It just so happens someone was trying to steal his headlights at the time and the dog attacked them. Jesse fought feverishly to get the dog off and help the poor man. Jesse used a bat to get the dog off of the "victim" but missed hitting the dog and instead repeatedly struck the innocent man purely by accident. Once the police showed up Jesse apologized for not coming to the man's rescue sooner.

I would think there is a high probability (assuming the facts are as we know them), that Jesse will be sued. Especially being in CA, but really that doesnt mean much anymore..

That's the bad news.. the somewhat better news is that Homeowners will probably cover this. Then again, my home policy doesnt allow for rotties and chows.

Obviously, I'm hoping nothing comes of it and think the guy got what he deserved. But, seriously, you might want to start thinking proactively about any suit that could come of it.

Oooh, but if it happened in Texas - You could have done exactly that. Deadly force is acceptable in protecting property. We need that law everywhere.

Sadly, you're right. Technically it's private property. No matter what the motive for the other person is, they can sue. Ridiculus and crazy yet true.
One of my neighbors got robbed and the robber got injured leaving the house (tripped over and sprained the ankle), he sued and won $5000. It's just crazy.

Here's what I think you should do, to best protect yourself.

Talk to your attorney. Hopefully you have one that you trust, if not, get a GREAT referral. You will need a truly compitent attorney.
First and foremost, and I would do it ASAP, sue the guy that tried to steal your headlights. Off the top of my head, I would sue for tresspassing, wreckless endangerment (if your headlights were removed and you drove), battery on your dog and yourself, and property damage (for the portion he removed). Perhaps you can include psychological damage. (fear of attack, rebuddle, etc.)

Question?

Since the police actually caught the guy, Doesn't he have to PAY for the damages?

I mean...shouldn't the judge make him pay? If I was the insurance company, I wouldn't pay sheit.

The way many insurance companies work is that they pay your damages that you claim. Then, they take the liberty of going after the other party.
