Ran a 4th gen...

In my 2K auto. My friend has a bone-stock 97 SE auto and we both wanted to see how close they were. We both nailed it at 70 mph and I pulled about 1 car length to 80 and about another .5 car to 90 mph, then we shut them down. All I have is an Injen CAI. Does this sound about right? I was happy that I managed to walk him slowly...

We are both auto's, but I turned off O/D anyway before I got on it. I have the heavy 17's on my car and he has the 16 inch SE wheels.

C'mon man, our cars are heavier and by looking at time slips/dyno runs the 4th gens are damn close so it is a close race....

Try again, but this time nail it from 55mph. This will put you both deep in second gear. I'd be interested in the results.

I would also. Do you think that by starting off in second he would have stayed within 1 car length of me? or even tied me? I still think my car has a very slight advantage on top-end power..

It sure does. But, I'd like to see how that power advantage is affected by weight and the larger wheels. My only friend here with a 5th Gen has a 2k2, so when we race, we know what's going to happpen...

The intake must have made the difference. If you had started in 2nd I think you would have pulled a little more because the top-end is much better on the 00-01's. By starting in the mid-range of 3rd it was a pretty fair race but you never got to your top-end advantage unless you crossed 5000rpm when the 4th gen starts to fall flat on its face.

also did both of you have o/d off, that would have made a big difference in 3rd gear!

I did have O/D off and I'm not sure about him..How is it that O/D is going to make a difference anyhow since at WOT she's not going to shift into 4th until the same point as it would with O/D on right? at WOT??
