Need advise on a 02&03 Max

I'm currently looking at 2 used Maximas /autos. One of them is a 02 SE white with god awful tan interior with custom maroon leather and a moonroof. It also has only 10,000 miles on it. The dealer was asking 21,995 for it, the internet ad said 19,995, and I said 18,000 for it if they want me to walk off the lot with it. All they could do was 18,900 for it. I walked for now.

The other is a 03 ex-rental Blue SE, auto, grey cloth, moonroof, with 18,xxx miles on it. They are posting 21995 for it, probably ask for 18000 again. I haven't been in to look at it yet.

My question would be: Which car would be a better deal and which car would be better off for me? I love the majestic blue my fav by far, but the car being a rental is giving me some doubt about it. Should I get the 03 and try for a deal on a extended warr. to at least cover my loan duration or try the 02 with god awful interior?

My brain is starting to hurt. ;(

Thanks for reading my babbling.

Don't get the rental...too risky, even with an extended warranty.

can't you travel a little? i mean there have to be more than two 02/03 Maximas for sale within 50 miles (i mean if u are spending 18k or more...traveling won't hurt you..you may even find the perfect one)

Depends on who's selling the rental. Here's my personal experience.

I bought my '03 SE, Silver, Auto Maxima from Hertz Car Sales. Best used car buying decision i've ever made.

Paid $18k, car had 24k miles on it, but they gave me copies of all the service records. It was fully maintained and on schedule. They threw in a 48K mile/48 month extended warranty for nothing, AND they have a 5 day no hassle return policy. If you drive it home and within 5 days you simply "don't like it", you can return it no questions asked.

The car runs great, was very clean, plus the South San Francisco location had like 15 on the lot to choose from. They let me take as much time as needed to look them all over, and I test drove about 5 of them before deciding.

No pressure from sales people either. It was great.

I know some people shy away from buying rentals (this was my first, and yes I was hesitant too), but the price, service records, free extended warranty (plus it's still under factory warranty), and their overall good customer service sold me on the deal.

It's worth checking into before simply saying "Never buy a rental". If you buy a used car off a lot that was owned by some teenager who beat on the car, but never even serviced it on schedule, or at all, how's that better?

Bottom line, both have their pros/cons, but neither is the "right way only".

More importantly though, if you don't want a rental, and you don't like the color/style of the other one, why don't you keep looking until you find one you do like?

You have to be comfortable paying for the car that's right for you, and one you'll REALLY be happy with, so you don't kick yourself in the a$$ every time you right out that monthly check

Good luck in your decision.

I used to work for Enterprise. We'd sell most of the rentals to used car dealers anyway. Most states don't have to disclose where the car came from. The better condition ones were sold by Enterprise retail sales and the junk was sold at the auctions.

Thanks all for the replies.

I have been currently looking for a max since May. I have had 2 brand new Maximas sold from a dealer that was supposed to hold them for my dealer. ****ed beyond this world about that. Tried a deal with my dealer to budge on their price of 22,300 on a base se with moonroof. Failed and I walked.

So for a couple of months I tried to hunt down a new max nationwide. No such luck in at least the 2 colors I wanted and wasn't loaded. So now I'm running out of time, and I'm searching for a used 02/03 max with somewhat low miles.

I have damn near searched the entire nation on autotrader for a 03 max with less than 12,xxx miles and the color I want and not being a rental. Well there is very very few that match and the maxes that I called on were sold months ago. Everything is turning up as rentals cept for a select few and those are usually a private owner asking to much and won't budge much.

I have a question though. What is the difference for a car that is reg. as a rental then withing a few days as a Lease? Such as this

Just be patient, if you can. The longer you wait the more and more maxes will be traded in. Call infiniti dealers, as a lot of previous max owners trade in for G35s or other infinitis!
