Fuel Gage stopped working...need advice.

So today I drove my 2000 SE to my friends house, when I get back in later and fire her up I notice that my fuel gage is stuck at about 1/4 tank, even though I had filled it up earlier that day. And even after numerous restarts throughout the day it stayed there.

Has anyone else had this problem before? And what should I do about it?

Sounds like maybe your float in the tank itsself is stuck. Take it to Nissan and have them assess it.

Never had a problem I would go what PhxBlue says. Take it in to Nissan to have it checked.

Take your car to them, tell them exactly what you want to do, if they start BS'n you just tell em to shove it and walk away...

Let me know how this goes as mine is doing the same thing. I have ordered/recieved parts but have not had the chance to install/test them.

Well before installing my new parts, I ran a test on my old parts. What I did was disassemble the fuel pump/filter from the rest of the mechanism (to keep the fuel pump from being a part of the factor). I then hooked it up and it registered "properly" on the fuel gauge.

I then reassembled the entire assembly, but left it out of the tank in order to test it. Again, the gauge registered "properly". So I very carefully reassembled (after buyin a new gasket) and will have to wait to see if I got it right. It HAS to be the float assembly in my mind.

If anybody else has done this and has suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks!

OK, I fixed it...no parts necessary. When I reinstalled the assembly, I made sure that I moved the float with my fingers as far to "full" as I could before pushing it all the way down.

I also think if I had a computer glitch or issue, by pulling the assembly out, and making it register in a "different" capacity, might have "reset" whatever was messed up.

Anywho...its fixed, I am happy, the world continues to rotate....
