I got this from the latest AWW from Michelle Krebs.

Will Chrylser make it?
Daimler-Chrysler, having lost $512 million from its Chrysler operations in the third quarter of last year and an estimated $1.25 billion in the fourth, generated lots of discussion and conjecture. The German executives who now run the company will unveil their recovery plan this month. THey argue that they will turn Chrysler-a company historically known for turnarounds-around. I'm convinced Chrysler will make it. The bigger question is, What will Chrysler look like when it emerges from this crisis?

What did Renault and Nissan do right?
While DaimlerChrysler executives face questions about beleaguered Chrysler, Renault and Nissan executives celebrated their turnaround. Who would have thought it? On paper, the Germans and Americans of DiamlerBenz and Chrysler seemed more compatible partners than did the French and the Japanese of Renault and Nissan. Yet the Renault-Nissan marriage appears a more successful one. Just what did Renault and Nissan do right...and what did Diamler and Chrysler do wrong?

I'll tell you what they did right XTERRA, PATHFINDER 3.5/QX4, MAXIMA/I30, SENTRA and there is better comming.. Zcar,3.5L MAXIMA, SENTRA V-SPEC,Q45,ALTIMA

It appears that neither the bride nor groom was totally honest in this union - the Germans said they were proposing an equal partnership, but had takeover on their minds.

The Americans had a strong track record of cost control and innovative designs, but in reality costs were up and the rebate game is killing profit margins.

Chrysler will survive - it will take a while to assimilate into the Benz culture and replace the talent that bailed out when Eaton did.

Iacocca pulled them through financial ruin with the K-car and the omni/Horizon. Chrysler has a pretty strong product line and with a new Ram and a full sized ute they should be able to hold market share.

Now if they could only get the mfg quality thing ironed out...

rumors...

i have some very reliable sources in chrysler that says that daimler is seriously considering cancelling all chrysler cars, just making the whole mopar corporation the dodge truck/van division and rebadged mitsubishis only. in other words, all you would ever see with a dodge/chrysler badge on it are trucks, vans, and mitsubishis.

Well obviously the PT cruiser isnt that ugly or bad of a production car. Reason being I work at Carmax. We are a New Chrysler Distributor. Rated as Chryslers #1 Chrysler seller. Tell me why that every PT Cruiser is on order. None are for sale on the lot. If so its becuase some one cancelled their order and was tired of waiting five months to get it. And we are still getting people ordering them! I personally wouldnt pay 21k for a four cylinder engine car slash van look alike. And its 22-23k if you want the limited with leather and extras. Its ridiculous! But the demand is soo huge though. So Chrysler must be doing something right with those things, Becuase they are selling like hot cakes.

Chrysler makes some of the nicest cars on the road. I think all of their cars have perfect, futuristic shapes that gives us an earlier look into what cars might become in the near future. The PT cruiser is no exception. It has a blend of retro/futuristic shape that will look nice in the years to come.
What really gets me is that some of the buyers have no clue they are buying a neon-based car. Neons are nice, but the drivers drive aroung like they are driving a $50,000 bmw sverving in and out of traffic. I'd do that, too though I think the car looks sweet. Maybe I'm just jealous?
Now if Chrysler gets that S/C in

Chrysler will stay alive...

They'll be around, if not for their current cars, but because of the other companies they own as well. I've never been a fan of Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth/Jeep/Eagle (the list goes on and on...) because they have WELL been known for crappy electrical systems and crappy mods to their drive trains in the past. They've done leaps and bounds on their new stuff, but some of it still looks too cheap and "acts" too cheap for the price they charge and what you get.

I think they need to pay attention to their workmanship and quality before worrying about stupid little "technological gdagets" such as their remote opening doors and "auto sticks" on transmissions that can't even cut it when it's an automatic on its own. That's just my opinion.

i agree with screamingVQ....

chrysler has a bunch of nice looking cars in my opinion, i even like there new town and country minivan, they have nice engines too, 215 adn 230hp v6's. and the 300m is also a nice car, 250ho engine, i believe that chrysler will be around for a while, they might just need to lower the prices on there cars a bit, $35k for a minivan is a bit much for most families.

that aint all that saved Nissan

..(their lineup of cars) What partly turned them around was when they merged, the new head of Nissan, (from the southern America (Brazil), downsized and restructured Nissan worldwide, laying off 25,000 employees, mostly in Japan. Cost cutting with vicious aggression is helping turn NIssan around. It wont be out of the hole till the new Z car comes out. In the mean time, the new head of Chrysler, a German fella, who is very much hated by his North American underlings, is about to embark on a similar slashing of Chrysler. What is a Chrysler anyways??? A bunch of mainly outsourced parts from various Korean suppliers, assembled rather poorly in America. Chrysler outsources its parts more so than any other American made auto..and it shows.
Yup,the K car saved Chryslers behind, because average working stiffs needed a cheap ride. The Tempo and the Escort did the same for Ford..so what does that tell ya???
Actually, if Chrysler never ate the 7 year warranties on their lineup, they woulda gone under. It's those warranties, not the quality of their cars, that kept the customers coming back!!!!

Chryslers

Personally, I hate the look of the PT Cruiser but as Max88q said, others like 'em. Other Chryslers look nice too, but you know...looks aren't everything.

P.S. The poor crash scores of the Concord, Intrepid, and 300M scared me away and helped buy me a Maxima.
