GLE, SE, or GXE?

My father-In-Law recently passed away, He owns a 2000 Maxima. My wife and I want to make an offer to the bank so that we can keep the car. The problem is that we do not know if the car is an GLE, SE, or GXE. the rear emblem (which I have seem on most Maximas) is missing. My father-in-law would not have removed the emblem. Do some cars come with out emblems? The bank says the car is an GLE, I don't know where they are getting this from. I was under the impression that GLEs came standard with leather seats and a Bose stereo system? This car does not have those options. Thanks to anyone that can help me out in determining what kind of car this is...

run the vin number at carfax. it should tell you the history and what model it is or search google for the codes for the maxima's vin. they have a pattern for each type(se,gle, gxe).

I believe the GXE came without badges. GLE's and SE's always had the badges in the 2000 Maximas...

GXEs (the least expensive of the 5th gens) have no trim emblem on the trunk. Also, if nothing was added on after purchase or as an option at the time of purchase, GXEs don't come with fog lights.

I tried carfax, they listed it as a 2000 Maxima GLE/SE/GXE
I decoded the vin, the fifth and sixth digit are the model/type. The A3 in the vin decoded as a Maxima A33. Don't know what the A33 means. other that that decodeing to vin wasn't much help...

Sorry for your loss.

The car is definitely a GXE. Not all GXEs have emblems. All GLEs have leather. All SEs do not have chrome door handles. If you have cloth seats and chrome exterior door handles, you have a GXE.

Well, I would think that if it doesnt have a rear spoiler its a GLE or GXE at a minimum. If it has no fogs nor any trim badge, its probably a GXE.

The old Ins. card says GLE, I'm guessing thats why the bank says its a GLE. But the car has cloth seats, chrome ext. door handles, no spoiler, and no fog lights, and no trim badge. must be a GXE... Thanks...

The banks would probably love to offer you the price of a GLE, so their greed is showing. It's probably a GXE

'00/'01 base SE:

- No chrome around the front grille
- Body-colored door handles
- Chrome exhaust finisher
- 16" 5-spoke alloy wheels
- SE badge
- Foglights
- Titanium faceplates on the guages
- Slightly different / better quality cloth interior
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel
- Leather-wrapped shifter
- Sports-tuned suspension
- Rear spoiler
- SE-style smoked rear tail-lights

The GXE is not a bad car. If some of the above is in a GXE, they were added on as options. The GXE, however, always has the same sweet engine as all the other trims which is a good thing.

Peace.

If its like my insurance card, that wont help at all; my insurance card says GXE/GLE when I have an SE model.

The value of a GXE is relatively lower than an SE or GLE. GXEs aren't bad, but if he is going to pay for the car, he should know what he is getting into.
