new exhaust

im looking to replace my stock exhaust, but cash is definately a problem (isn't it always?). just wondering what the best bang for the buck so to speak is...im looking at around $200-$250. interested in performance over sound. thanks.

Get a budget b-pipe and weld magnaflow tips on the stock muffler. Te b-pipe gives you the most hp anyway, plus you still stay at a decent sound level.

go to a local muffler shop that has Magnaflow and Flowmaster. have then make a b-pipe with magnaflow resonator ($125-$150) and 40 (louder)or 50 (quieter) series Flowmaster muffler ($80). Couple of tips ($25). If you want it loud. just skip a resonator and b-pipe would cost you $60-$70.

actually the best bang for the buck in the exhaust is the y pipe. they have proven gains for 2k and k1 compared to the 2k2 or k3. check out budgetexhaust.com for the best priced y pipe. the currency is stated in canadian just as heads up. the y would free up around 12hp while the b pipe is around 3-5.

how is are the y-pipes on sound? i'd like to keep it as quiet as possible...neighbors and parents are kinda b*itchy. the y's on budget exhaust are called F pipes...im assuming its the same cause it looks the same. also, i heard that the y-pipes weren't street legal...or is that just some brands?

I'd go for a y-pipe as your first performance mod. Budget makes a good pipe but if you want to maximize performance go for one that is mandrel bent and 2.5" in diameter. There are many companies that make them, just look them up

yeah, they are called f pipes. the f or y wont increase sound that much at all. it only really gets loud when you remove the stock muffler. ive got a intake, y pipe, b pipe and its barely louder than stock when you are cruising around. you will get the best gains from it and the pipe is not street legal. as long as you dont live in CA, you shouldnt have a problem passing emissions. it does eliminate the precat in the stock y pipe but there is still another pre and main cat.

I thought both precats were in the Y/F pipe? Anyway you should still pass emissions as long as you keep the main cat on (i did).

it does on the 4th gens but 2k and 2k1 only remove one. the pipes for the 2k2 dont remove any.
