Exhaust ticket

Has anyone ever gotten a ticket for their exhaust? I thought exhaust is legal as long as u dont gut or swap out the catalyic concerter. The HKS and Greddy Evo thread was awesome and i made up my mind on purchasing the Greddy Evo. I just dont wanna get stopped for a ticket from the exhaust.

Thanks in advance.

never heard of a maxima owner, or any car actually, getting stopped for having an exhaust too loud. Wouldnt worry about it. Think of all those civics wtih exhausts you can hear a mile away, and they dont have trouble with the cops, nor do Harley owners!

I believe the force in CA will do spot check crackdowns on street racers and ticket you for all unauthorized enhancmenets to your vehicle including: exhaust, intake, lowering, tires outside the fender well, lights etc...
I've actually seen video of this on TV during some news show piece.

Its usually the gay ricer Civics and 4-bangers who can't get out of thier own way who get the tickets. But I wouldn't rule out a Max with exhaust and Y-pipe....

In Fairfax, VA they have been giving out tickets for this. If you have an aftermarket shiny muffler they will pull you over and ticket you. A coworker had this happen. You will probably win in court if you provide documentation showing that your exhaust is legal, but it's kinda like being in an accident that's not your fault. You are still inconveinienced.

I think you are refering to the MTV show "life of a street racer" or something along those lines.

Is intake illegal, exhaust and lowering illegal. And how is having shiny exhaust illegal.

They seem to be pretty loose in upsate NY. But if you are driving late at night, it's just one more excuse for them to pull you over; like having tint. They may or may not ticket you, but they will check you out.

But during the day, they will never bother you cuz of it.

In WA State, it is illegal to modify your exhaust system to be any louder than the original equipment.

you mean if it actually meets standards. It's really easy to stamp that on a box but (GASP) some manufacturers have been known to lie (OHMYGOD)!

no matter what "standards" you're talking about, if it's loud there's a potential ticket if the cop feels like writing it.
