tranny help!!!

About 2 days ago after changing the oil, the tranny started to act weird. The problem was it started to downshift for no reason. Finally yesterday i tried to accelerate and noticed it was very very slow.... then I realized it started in second gear... So i just kept accelerating and it would not upshift to 3rd gear.. So i slowed down and floored it, and still it was in second gear. So finally for my last try i put the shifter into first and manually shifted to 2nd and then i put it on D.... But it did not leave second gear. And still today it remains on gear 2. I really need help on this one... what are some recommendations and tips? Do you think its because its because of the tranny fluid? I appreciate any help.. Thanks.

What kinda of oil are we talking about you changed? We talking about a Tranny oil change or the Engine oil change? Just want to make sure you wernt talking about Tranny oil before I dig deep into this.

But from the sounds of it, it seems like youve got either a Tranny problem (lost 1 3 4) or your ValveBody is stuck. Do you have a check engine light? Also have you tried to see if you got Reverse?

But prepare for the worst, could be a busted tranny.

lol, no i didnt change tranny oil with engine oil. I changed the motor oil.

BigDog... I can go reverse and once in a while it shifts to 3rd and 4th, but then it starts downshifting and upshifting randomly. But most of the time it will not leave gear 2. Engine light is not on.

I have seen this happen to older maximas, not sure that i have heard of it a newer one. This may just be a case of the computer getting confused as to what gear the trans is in. Normally it will happen if you break real hard and lock up the wheels while the car is at a pretty good speed. Anyway try disconnectiong the battery for about 10 minutes and then hook it back up. Hope this will solve your problem.

Disconnecting the battery is not going to work. From the sounds of it I think the Valve Body is having trouble. May need to get that checked out.

You may think i will not work, But I have personally seen this happen to Two 4 gen Maximas where the car would pull out in second gear then up shift and never go back to first, and disconnedting the bat for 10 minutes or so DID WORK .I am not saying this will solve his problem but it may, and if disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes is too much work than I think he should take to nissan and get it fixed.

what the heck, i will try the battery method... milage on tranny is around 40k. BTW, this shows how stupid dealerships are, i called and told them how my car would not shift out of second... the service man than proceeded to ask if it was manual...... WTF? Why do we all have to put up with these morons? I shoulda said no, its not manual, but it has a clutch...
