BIG Help and Advice Needed (FNND Transmission Diagnosis)
I need some advice from those in the know about a brewing issue with my Max. First, a little background. After coming back from the body shop last Fri, I noticed that shifting into 5th was a tough. No big deal except that the next time I tried to shift into reverse it wouldn't. The last gate would only allow me to shift to 5th but when pushing down to shift to reverse, no go.
So...given that the problem was similar to one I had years ago in my SHO, I took the Max into my FNND thinking that they would be able to re-adjust the linkange and/or a derailer. Nope. I got a call back this afternoon saying that they were thinking that there was internal transmission damage. Naturally, they aren't SURE of this, but the guy I have been talking to told me that their techs bolstered their advice with a call to the Nissan Tech Line...
The problem? I am still on the powertrain warrenty (5/60) and have been assured that I will likely be covered. Another plus is that my clutch seems to be going and this would be an optimal time to replace/repair as the labor work will be covered under warrenty. HOWEVER, I have also been told that because they won't know for sure what is wrong until they disassemble the transmission, they can't be FOR SURE that it is a warrenty service. So:
1) How do I cover myself in case this turns out to be something that has many hours of labor resulting in a horrific bill that maybe shouldn't be?
2) What part of a manual tranny ISN'T covered under the warrenty?
Thanks as always for any and all advice. I haven't cleared them to do anything yet and likely won't until mid-morning tomorrow. I am thinking that getting something in writing on exactly what diagnostic fee I will be responsible for assuming that it isn't covered would be a smart bet, as would asking THEM what isn't covered. I should stipulate that so far the service has been quite good with them (despite an old lingering feeling locally that their service could be bad) and they managed to work me in today despite warning me that they may not be able to look at it until the end of the week - I am just nervous is all...
