MAX vs EVO
on the highway one time I started to come up on one fast (not full throttle, but fast) he saw me coming and gave it some gas. is car took off, i didn't even want to waste the gas by testing his top end. i heard that they have no top end, but that was afterward, and in retrospect, i don't think i would have taken him. He may have been modded, he had numbers written on his windows like he had just come from the track.
the quickest i've ever seen a stock evo was 13.88 at 100 mph. going off that number, it would walk even the quickest stock vq powered car -350Z- past 1xx mph.
that being said, i certainly wouldnt pass up a race with on of those. for that one i saw run a 13.88, I've seen nine others that run 14.3-14.7 at 95-97 mph. it just depends how hard you wanna flog your car if you're driving the evo.
BTW, the Motor Trend issue where they got the Evo to run the low 13.xx, that's a ringer. nowhere have you seen that duplicated. even the sti's which are a tad stronger are only running a bit quicker than stock 6 speed ls1's - 13.4-13.6.
magazine numbers and real world numbers vary greatly, since for every mag editor who can extract the best possible time out of a car that he doesn't have to make a car payment on, there's ten other ppl who have to worry about keeping the car together and will not abuse the car...
Evos are nice, but they're hardly unbeatable.

EVO's are fast cars, I have much respect for them so I would not try to race them from a stop, and thats a big NO!
I'll give them a run on the highway though....
I think they look sweet as hell with that front mount intercooler~

I'm not a 100% sure it was stock, but I still think it is possible to run low 13's . car and driver had one in a test and launched it at 5000 RPM and got a 13 flat. Its all in how much pain you want to put on the tranny. All wheel drive!!!!
from a stop, you need AWD if the EVO knows how to drive. otherwise, from a roll, it wouldnt take THAT much for a 2k2 Max to run with an EVO, provided its a 6 speed. Still, in general, I think the Max will get owned. But those EVO's are goin for $10,000 over the suggested retail around here = $40,000 for one!!! If I put the difference of $15,000 into my Max, well that'd be nice wouldnt it

There is a vid out there floating around of a "supposedly" stock RSX-S pulling on the evo in 1xx speeds. The RSX-S vtech is strong on the top end for a weak little car, and the EVO's gearing sux for top end races. The gears are straight up set for low end power (rally). Unless the video was staged to make the EVO seem slower, or the RSX isn't listing mods.
I went to englishtown last wednesday...there were like 4 evos there and 1 sti
one evo ran like 13.8 and one ran 12.4!!! it was crazy, he definitely had to have upgraded his turbo or something
STi didn't impress me....13.6 (he had ice on his intake for a good 40 minutes too) Still love that car though
