3rd set of front rotors at 50K

I asked the sevice rep if there was any chance that Nissan was going to recognize the rotor probem and put the third set of rotors on for free. He laughed and said, oh no, not at that mileage.

I spent $800 today at the service department of my local nissan dealer. Yahoo!

I also had the front sway bar replaced, whatever that is...? It was rattling like mad, and driving me insane. It probably wore out from the vibration of the garbage tires that can't be balanced, and the violent shaking whenever the brakes are applied. It actually drives a lot better now.

It'll cost me a grand for tires, and maybe another grand to solve the brake problem with brembo rotors and some higher performance pads....? But I understand there's no guarantee there either.

It's trade in value is exactly equal to the it's debt. Funny how that happens.

Sorry to **** and moan, but my wallet is $800 lighter and its Friday night. Or should I say my credit card is $800 heavier. I need a beer (or 6)!

ive got a few question, im a bit confussed. why didnt have you go ahead and replace the rotors and pads with aftermarket if you knew you were not going to get it covered under warranty? also what tires are you running that cant be balanced? last question, did you have to pay for the front sway bar replacement, i wasnt sure if you had an extended warranty or not.

Well, I'm a little confused as to why I didn't just go aftermarket now too. Hindsight I guess is 20/20. I think I was just kind of assuming that Nissan would throw in the Rotors. I paid $417 for the front brake job, with $196 of that being the rotors.

The tires are the stock Potenzas. I've had them balances several times, and ended up getting them replaced by bridgestone at a very reduced price at around 23K. I've concluded that they are just not smooth running tires. I've had the rims checked out and they're fine. My next stop is one of the new balance/vibration machines.

I started arguing with the service guy over the sway bar. I thought it should have been a warranty item. The cost was $125. I do have an extended warranty. Tomorrow I think I'll actually read it and if I still think I'm right, I'll fire a letter off to Nissan.

Sway bars don't go bad, the bushings and end links do. A bushing kit goes for around 15 bucks.

I'd find someplace else to have your car serviced, your being seriously taken for a ride. You could have put all new aftermarket brakes in the car for under 600 bucks. Your nuts to go with Nissan brake components, your only setting yourself up for a future failure again.

i think i would have gone with any other tire than the re92 even if it was on sale. njmaxseltd is right on that sway bar dont go bad, there are no moving parts unless someone cut into it with a saw. when anyone says the part is bad, ask to see the part and the failure in it or just tell them you want the old parts. what parts did they list on your order for the sway bar replacement?

I understand your pain on the RE92's. I just had mine replaced ( finally ) at 42k. No matter how many times I had them balanced, they still caused the steering wheel to shake. My new HTR+ are smooth as glass

just a question, where is everyone getting their brake jobs done? I know i could do it myself, I've done it, but frankly I don't have the time nor inclination.
I don't want Nissan rotors, I'd go for something else, but I'm not into the drilled or slotted.

It says...."Replaced front sway bar. . link was worn and noisy", but under the parts description it says "Rod Assy-connec" for 47.52, "nuts" 3.22. The labor was 51, brining the total to 125.

Damn...$196 for Nissan crap rotors...I just bought a set of Power Slot Slotted rotors for $177.25 SHIPPED. Got em on last night. If you ever take your car back to Nissan, just ask them if the work will be completed under warranty FIRST. If they say no, tell em to put your crap back on and go somewhere else!

I'm sure I could do it as well, but don't have the time. I went to the dealer since I was hoping that some of the work would be warranty items. I take my wife's Jeep to the local tire/repair center and have never had a problem. I'll take the max there next time.

how in the hell did you get 73k out them. the treadwear is like a 210 or something close to that. id love to see a pic of re92 with 73k miles on them. i bet they look like slicks with the metal belt sticking out of them.

The rotor warpage issue still has me wondering though, a lot of people complain about it - but there's also a lot of people who say nothing about it. I, for one, at 32k have had no warp issues on the rotor - and that's after going through a lot of high speed emergency braking, stop 'n go traffic, mt. washington, holding me stable while being rearended, etc.

Perhaps Nissan has two suppliers for the rotors?

This brings up a question. Is it the rotors that cause the judder or is it the stock brake pads? I read that brake judder is caused by an uneven deposit of brade pad material onto the rotors. This causes the surface of the rotors to become uneven.

I had the judder on my 2000 I30. Infiniti cut the rotors and replaced the front pad for free at 18,000 miles. Now at 29,000 without a problem.

There was a thread maybe a year ago about the brake judder being caused not by a warped rotor but by an uneven build up of brake pad deposit. A well known braking expert had written an article. I'm not positive, but I think the Nissan stock rotors are still "warping" with aftermarket pads.... maybe someone will weigh in here. They're also warping when the lugs are overtightened, which is certainly not uneven build up.

I'm in the same boat. I have an 02 and only choices I see are the slotted, drilled or OEM. Any ideas anyone?

I'm in the market for a set of slotted rotors myself, but the cheapest I've found are on Custommaxima for $199 plus a minimum of $12 shipping.

Where did you get your rotors from?
