I'm *this* close to choosing the Maxima (over the VW Passat), but some people are telling me that the Maxima looks like an old(er) person's car, and some have even used the word "faggy!" I TOTALLY disagree with them! I'd like to know if there's anyone out there under 25 years old who drives a 2000 or 2001 Maxima....and please tell me your age and which trim you drive! Thanks! And in the process, you can solidify my belief that the Maxima is a much wiser choice than the Passat! Email me!

I just turned 24. Get the SE with the 17" rims and it won't look like on old person's car. In fact, you will see shortly, that many of the people that have Max's here are under 25. If you are comparing the Passat to the Max, it better be the V6 Passat. The Passat with the I-4 is a dog. When you look at the Passat V6, it will be quite a bit more expensive than the Max. The VW is a nice car, kind of bland, but for the price, the Max wins hands down.

I would only consider the GLE trim....it comes standard with everything! I would NOT get a sunroof, though...don't need it....I'd get the GLE with automatic, and that's IT....nothing else added

I'm 25 and drive a 2k1 Super Black SE. It does not look like an old person's car....at least I have never had anyone say that to me.

I'm 18 and drive a 2001 super black SE with the comfort and convience package. TRUST me, It isn't a faggy car!! I have gotten so many complements from my friends it isn't even funny. Also, my mom is old and she wanted a passat. My dad actually bought the car for her out of some weird impluse. After a week of driving it she gave it to me and told my dad to buy her a minivan. She said it was "too fast" She kept peeling out out every light and stop sign without even trying to. Then she said "I thought I was going 35 but the speedometer said 60!" This car wins hands-down.

I thought we were all supposed to be politically correct:)

I just turned 21 this past October. I drive a 2001 SE with the Comfort and COnvenience package. Faggy? I take personal offense to that *grin*

MOST of the time you'll find the younger guys driving the GXE or the SE and the "older" crowd that was referenced in the GLE's.

Go with the Maxima. It's a LOT cheaper for a lot more solid ride. The Passat is a bit overpriced I think...especially since you can't get the I-4...even most dealers will tell you it's a "highway car". Once it's going, it's smooth as hell and quiet for a 4 cylinder...but anywhere else it BITES! Then put on the air conditioner? Better hope you don't have any passengers otherwise you're not going ANYWHERE! Trust me...I test drove it in the summer.

OK, the feeling I'm getting from everyone is that the GLE is, indeed, an old(er) person's car...right? I just think the GLE is the best value....standard leather...standard bose system...standard auto climate control....C+C package is standard, etc.....comments? suggestions?

I am 23, and all I get is complements on its looks,

But I would say get any model that best suits you, I have the SE, and I love it. But we all have diff. opinions, I like the rear foggy lights on a SE, I also like the 17's.

In Canada, the SE 20th Anniversary Edition 5spd is the
same price as the GLE. The AE is fully loaded.

Under 25 w/Maxima

I've got a 2K SE 5spd with everything but heated seats. I've heard the whole 'Grandpa's Car" thing, but not sure how people come to that conclusion. I guess the same can be said for the Acura 3.2TL & Infinity I30 ?

I'm under 25 and I have the SE model. It's the spotiest model if you don't want the "old people" look.

OK I'm getting the Maxima! Now, I want some input! Color choices! I'm getting the GLE.....I've narrowed it down to either Gray Lustre or Sterling Mist exterior.....now.....with each of those colors, which looks better interior--blond leather or frost leather? (I dont like black leather). Also, can anyone out there tell me what I should be paying for sure? What I shouldn't pay more than, etc? I'm getting the GLE --AS IS--NO sunfoof, no deflector, no CD changer, no splash guards, no microfilter, no floor mats, no meridian package, no Z edition...what should I be paying? Email me!

They're both have about the same demographic appeal, which is diverse. For what it's worth... I've seen more older people with Passat's in my parking lot at work.

Get this color:

Go with a beige interior because it gives you a "happy go-get-em" feeling.

Go to my site to see more. Frost leather is a nice combo with this color. Personally, I like the 6 spoke 17" rims on the SE, but the 5 spoke GLE are nice too. You getting a spoiler?

i am 17

i am 17 and i am getting a white 2001 maxima AE is a week in manual
must get this car!!!!!
the passat is nothing compared to it.
i like european cars but i dont like vw cars, cuz i think they are just made in europe but the quality is not any better (if not worse) than japanese cars
i have an audi at home and when ever we bring it for service, they give us vw cars and i hate them, they just dont give you the feeling that european cars should have, the smoothness, compfort, etc...
just my opinion though
sorry if i offended any vw owners

I'm 21 and 2k super balck se, fully loaded. Now, about getting a GLE plain jane, I think it is nto likely. Most of options u want come standard. Why not just go with the GXE and get leather option. Again, I wish u would reconsider the SE. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm well over 25 and get accused by family and friends for driving a young people's car, which I think it is.

By the way, you can often spot forum members under 25 by their posts. Look for words like "roadkill", "sucks", or "cool". Also look for lack of capitalization (i instead of I), and bad punuctuation (Your when they mean You're).

you guys think my GLE is an old person's car

Yes I am under 25. I drive an Icelandic Pearl/blonde leather GLE. My car was fully loaded with a dealer add-on: gold package.

I got the sunroof option, spoiler, mud guards, meridian, traction control.

Also, the color of the car also makes the car look like an old or younger persons car. I think black, grey, and red are the car buyers choice if you want to have a car that looks like its for a "younger" generation. I picked white because I like it. The clear corners give it a cleaner look in thise color and a "sleeper" look.

maxima se is tight... and is the gle with a spoiler. but the GLE is more "refined" -- especially in the back because of the lights.

Get the SE with all the packages. If you want "loaded", it's more loaded than the GLE because it comes with 17" wheels, the sport suspension, and the spoiler.

The SE loaded is actually more $$ than the GLE because you pay more 4 those 3 things.

The only things you will not come with the SE that the GLE will have (and you can add them): wood trim and chrome interior doorhandles (I ordered the GLE parts and had them installed for < $400).

the other differences are (and these are just personal choices): front grille on GXE & GLE has a chrome border and the outside door handles are chrome (body paint colored on SE only). I ordered the front grille because I like the chrome (it was under $100). I left the exterior door handles because I prefer the body paint color (but I could have had those replaced too).

As far as your friends' comments, the Passat is way more of a conservative, kinda older-looking car than the Maxima SE. Don't get me wrong, the Passat is a sweet ride, but the Maxima SE is way sportier. besides, anyone who tells you not to get something coz it's "faggy" has some issues of his own to deal with!

Hey, I've got a crazy idea...how about you buy the car that you like the most as opposed to the one that we all like the most.

We all, clearly, prefer the Maxima.

If you are leaning towards the Passat, I highly recommend you check out the A4. I, personally, believe it is a much better version of that platform.
