Lights problem
I am in houston but my girlfriend goes to school in waco(Baylor). Her hometown is in Center Texas(the middle of no where). I visit her there every once in a while and i usually drive there after work which means at night. The lights on my 2k1 are just not bright enough and i dont want to drive with my brights on. There are deer and armadillo all over the place and deer whistleres are NOT an OPTION. I am not a hick. I have heard about driving lights from piaa and hella but are they better than an aftermarket HID kit. I would do not think that just replacing the stock bulbs with piaa or raybrig 5000k bulbs would be enough. What should i do. I am willing to spend up to $450 but only if i have to.

With a retrofit kit, you'll lose your highbeams UNLESS you go with a high-low kit, but that's going to be more then $450.
High beams are something I couldn't give up, however people who have done the swap say you don't need high beams anymore. I just couldn't get over the habit of flashing high-beams or having another setting to see FARTHER ahead.
Personally, I'd do both. Add a retrofit kit along with a relay that activates HIGH POWERED Hella or PIAA driving lights when you switch to the highbeams. If I didn't have 2K2 HIDs *THAT* is what I'd have right now.

Hmmmn...never heard of them. However, you get what you pay for.
Yes, ANY quality driving light will KILL a fog lamp with "upgraded" bulbs. I have PIAA super whites and it's not any brighter, just better color.

they keep posting in the classified forum. I have a friend who works at circuit city and he can get catz for cost. I am not sure if catz is still selling there HID kits though. Any body know of a good dual beam kit at a good price

I've hear Catz are bright, but do they have a hi-lo kit?

I'm sure hids in the H3 housing will be MUCH much brighter then stock, however the problem is that they are so low. So, without the extra height they won't illuminate the road like the H4s w/hids. You can aim the H3s higher to help cast light further, but I *DOUBT* they'll illuminate far away like the tight beam of driving lights. However, the drawback of driving lights is that they typically are high-wattage, therefore REQUIRE an upgraded harness. Hids in the fogs will work just fine with stock wiring.
