I get less than you (about 250 on average), and I don't think I am too aggressive. I think people who say that they get 450 or some shiit per tank are full of it..

My experiences:

When I first got the Max, I was getting on it like crazy, just to feel the car out. I raced everyone from BMW 530's S2000's 02 Ford T-Birds Pontiac GTPs, everybody. I was nuts about the car, since my previous car was a Camry, lol.

Anyway, my first few tanks I was getting 270 miles as well, hell, the Camry I got close to 400 per tank. So this really freaked me out, and plus going from paying $24 a tank to $34 was also pretty messed up.

I did my first oil change using Synthetic Mobil 1, dropped some STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner. A week later, I took a long trip to Wisconsin from Chicago (4 hours) averaging 85-90 the whole way up, and I got almost 400 on that tank of gas.

Since then, the car is running noticable smoother, and more efficient. I also have cut down on stop light encounters, and ease off lights, not abrupt starts. I am getting 315+ miles per tank now. No BS !

I let the gas light come on, usually at around 290 miles, and drive another 20-25 before I bother filling up. I know this probably doesn't help the fuel pump, so dont bring it up...

I always top off, and the tank ends up swallowing ~16.5 gallons, which translates 19.7 mpg -even though the car's comp says 20.7 mpg

My drive is about 75-25 city/hwy, so getting 20 mpg out a high performance sedan like the Maxima is ok in my book.

Sorry for the book report.

I just got my 2001 SE 5spd and I got 22MPG on the last tank. I went 370 miles or so and still had about 2 gallons left in the tank! I was thinking I must be almost running out of gas, but was happy to see that I could have gone up to 400 miles probably. And, I've been driving it pretty hard. Of course, I don't have the 2002 engine, so that will make a difference. :P

vaaccess: Same car as you but AE and I've touch only once the 370 miles in a 5 hour trip at 65-70MPH but my average is much like 300 sharp almost all the time when the light came out!!

I somehow think that the wheel can make a bit of difference cause the 17" are heavy like a pig! I'll try to watch out How much I put in it the next time!!

i think, city driving is a gas killer. 19 MPG !!!! i know during winter they add some thing to the gad so that the gas lines don't freze. but ITS NOT WINTER YET. i filled the tank on monday, today i have 133, and i am at half tank. i check the air in the tires regurlarly, change the oil, change the plugs,,,the DAMN PINGING doesn't stop,,,PHEW....i am going to switch...NO MORE NISSAN

Low gas mileage

I usually get between 350-400 miles on a tank in the summer time. It's worse in the winter since my tires like to go down a little and getting up to operating temp takes a little longer thus being a little less efficient. I've gotten over 400 a few times in the summer, but it's usually when I'm driving around 55mph for long periods of time. The faster you go the more gas it drinks, since drag is not linear, but is a function of velocity^2. Driving on someone's bumper can help with that, but is risky . I know it's hard to do, but doing the speed limit will save you a load in gas (not that I always obey it). Not sure if the oil does that much, but I use Mobile-1. Also, getting to your normal driving speed quickly seems to help. Make sure your tire pressure is at or near the recommened pressure. goodluck!

You guys that are getting lower miles on a tank are using Premium Fuel, right?

I'll be switching over to Amsoil Full Synthetic in a couple of weeks, so maybe I'll get 400+ consistently! :P The manual tranny will definitely help me attain that.

I haven't checked my tire pressure, but definitely need to do that to make sure it is good enough for good mileage.

Just to say : I'm 5Spd and always use premium!!

I don't know if there's a difference here in quebec of the gaz quality but I think he's worse than on the other side of the border!!!

Damm 439Miles (on a really "full" thank of gaz)! Does VQ35 more economic on gaz!!

VQ30 5spd will take more gas on hwy due to the gearing..remember going 80mph at 3200rpms? In the city driving, the 5spd will take less.

Does anyone else get about 12 mpg for 100% in-city driving?
I've gotten this consistently ever since I bought my 2002 Maxima SE
which now has 7000 miles on it.
Of course, my trip meter tells me that my average speed is usually
around 11mph. (Don't Laugh.)

I only drive the Max to and from the Dental School each day which
is about 1.3 miles away.

Of course, it is a very quick acceleration to 11mph.

if you only drive 1.3 miles and do all city you're lucky to get 12mpg...that's the hardest type of driving, especially if you get on the gas hard.

Hah.. all highway is not normal driving. I drive 90% city and get those numbers. If you are 90% or more highway then you might be getting those numbers. I am talking mostly city driving. And non grandma driving.

Less than 300? That's seriously screwed up. The tank holds I believe 18.5 gallons. The thing is rated (at least my 2000 with a 5 speed) for about 21/27 and I find I get in that range. I generally average around 24 miles/gallon. 18.5 gallon tank and 27 mpg will get you about 500 miles if you're on the highway driving gently, and that's just what my car is capable of getting.

Best I've ever gotten for a tank doing almost all highway was I think 26 miles per gallon, so LithiuMax not only am I saying I get 450 per tank, but if I drove on fumes I could get more.

400+ on a tank? Easy. Use 93 octane like your supposed to and
don't floor it all the time. Right now I'm getting 28.1 mpg with spirited
driving. On my trip from Pa to SC in August with a/c on I got 30.3mpg doing 75-80 the whole way. I think when I filled up (once, and my one stop on the 10hr drive) it said like 490 dte.

I do mostly city driving and I average about 15 mpg. On the highway, I usually average 26 mpg. With a total of 5100 mile on my 03 Max (12 months), my grand average is about 19 mpg. If you stomp on the gas pedal when the engine is not fully warmed up, you will notice that your gas meter drop drastically. Believe me, I experienced this several times when I tried to quickly merge onto a busy fast flowing highway in the winter.
