Short shifter from Mossy........

Looks like Mossy Performance is coming out with a short shifter for 2002 Maxima's, Alty's, and Sentra's 6-speed tranny's. haven't called for pricing or availability but it looks promising.

I can't wait for the reviews of this. Doesn't seem like a true short shifter though.

With the pricing $195 isn't bad. I've been trying to find a stock one off a salvaged car to do some experimenting on. So far I've found 1 and they want $250 for it. You don't want to know what it costs from Nissan...

I'm quite use to the long shift on my 6spd now, but short shifter is something to consider in the future.

DO NOT BUY THIS SHIFTER.

I did and f'd up my car trying to make it work. According to the manufacturer, it has never even been tried on this car before. In doing this though, I think I found a potential reason of why the stock shifter is so crappy and inconsistent on some cars. There is a rubber bushing that attaches the cable to the shift rod that seems to have way too much play. I am going to try and replace this to see if it improves the shifting until a sts that fits is available. Hopefully I won't have any problems getting my money back.

I don't know about the bushing. But I think I can shorten the stock unit. My problem is cash flow. My modding is done till at least late next spring. I had almost 20k of red ink, this month I chopped 4k off that I should be able to do that 2 or 3 more times by April/May and at least 1k in the other months. Given the price of $250 for a unit I found off a slavaged car it's just not in the budget right now.

If you guys are really interested in a shorter shifter and want to chip in on this project I'll confirm it works and make 1 at a time for all those peps that chipped in at no charge. I'll even pay shipping back to you. I'm good for $50 towards the project.
With the planed setup I have you will need to buy a new **** but other than that there be no other changes other than the shifter being shorter. I'm looking at a 1-1/2 - 2" drop in hight and still having the reverse protecter in place.

If there is enough intrest in this here I'll post a new thread, give out more info and get strated from there. Let me know what you guys think.

We have spoken and he will get a full refund. Apparently something is different enough that is won't fit easily. I have a 6 speed coming in and we'll see exactly what the issues are.
Sorry for the trouble, but please hold off on ordering for now.

Thanks for being such a standup guy/company about this. Most companies would say user problem and just ignore his request.

im interested, but are you just going to shorten the shifter rod? if so i already asked if doing that will actually help. Most people replied that it would make it even more notchier and not more functional....but if you get it to work and it works great, im definately in and i will chip in

Hey Greg, why does the service department tell me that the hood vibration problem is normal and there is nothing they can do to fix it? I have a 2003 Maxima SE I brought in to your dealership and this is what I was told.

Yes that's exactly what I want to try and it's also why I don't want to use my own or anyone esle's. If for some reson it doesn't work or feel right no one will be out a shifter and be stuck trying to find a replacement. Like I said one from a salvaged Max is $250, DAVEB's discounted price is like $350. You don't want to know what list is...

Given the fact there aren't many 6spd's to begin with there are far fewer that have been totaled. That's why I thought Mossy's idea looked promising and they'd be able to market it cross platform to generate more sales and keep the price reasonable. If they can get it working
right it still may be a good solution. I'm just unsure how it would feel, that's still quite a long shifter arm in there.

I was hoping I could find one a lot cheaper to do some experimenting with. Shortening the rod itself is easy, where it gets tricky is with the reverse slider and the diameter of the rod at the shortened hight. I know how to fix the slider and I don't think the diameter of the rod will be a problem with aftermarket ***** so now it's just getting my hands on one.

i see...
o in my opinion you dont need that plastic reverse thing, i mean all you need it for is for you not to accidently to put it in reverse, i belive the shifter should still go in reverse without the blocker.....so i think that should be the least of your conserns, unless you are tring to go for the stock look.
Good luck with everything and tell us if u need anything

Yes it will go into reverse with out the blocker.
The reason I want it there is not so much for me but the wife and anyone else that may drive the car. I've been known to hand over the key after having a few, err um several, beers.

I'm pretty sure the gear system still has a lockout on reverse if moving forward, just like the 5 spds. The ring it seems is really just there to prevent from moving into that channel on the upshift from 5th to 6th.

d'oh i always wanted to go at like 45 mph and have someone behind me and then switch to reverse just to have the reverse lights go on the scare the driver behind me, but i never actually tried it.......
oh well...

Well, unfortunately it didn't fit I did get a chance to drive Mossy's modded Altima with a STS 5 speed. Holy crap is that Alitma fast. The STS in that car is fantastic! I guess we'll have to wait a bit longer for our 6-speed STS.

I've been emailing with Greg at Mossey asking for this. He said he will look into it and let me know. Last email was about 2 weeks ago.
