Just washed my in-cabin microfilter...

Man that thing was dirty. There were bits of leaves, pine needles and the expected dust in the filter. Wasn't sure what kind of soap to use to clean it, so I used some regular old laundry detergent and let it soak in there. Hopefully my car won't smell like @ss anymore. If it does, then I know it's my feet.

It's located behind your glovebox. Just remove the glovebox latch, then the glovebox itself. Complete directions with diagrams can be found at http://www.courtesyparts.com/instruc...binfilter.html

Just make sure your's is the washable kind. I don't think anything before 02 or 03 is washable. It will say on that sticker inside the glovebox.

I believe if it's one piece it's washable. I had a one piece on my 02 SE. I went to the dealer and bought the more expensive charcoal filter which is a two piece filter which is not washable.

ok...i took off the glove box, removed the filter cover and...THERE IS NO FILTER! what is up with that?

the box is just empty! i can see the grates up int there form the cooling unit, guess...but no filter - just an emtpy box! whole bunch of leaves in there too!

maybe that is why my car smells all the time!

anyone know how much one of these filters runs (the cheaper washable kind)? part #? can you get one from anywhere besides FNND?

Is there a way to get ahold of a washable filter? I wouldn't mind paying upwards of $50 if I knew it was washable. Is it something that is standard on all or most all 2k2/3's so that I might get one from a junk yard?

Another question, does anyone know of a good way to clean the coild inside of the filter box? I can see some "stuff" on the coils on the inside but have no idea on how to get in there and cleaning it, or what to use to clean it. I am thinking of a toothbrush on a long stick with some bleach water. Any ideas? Might I mess something up or put a smell or residue in there that I would be better off not having?

It helps protect cooling and heating system

I would keep the filter in the car as long as it doesn't stink or block airflow. The filter keeps dirt (leaves and dust which turns in to mud) from getting into your A/C condenser unit and heater core. Either part can clog up. It happened to me on another one of my cars and I had to remove the heater core and have it cleaned (alot of work or very expensive). KEEP THE FILTER IN!

I removed the blowed fan for better access (very easy - 3 screws) and put the hose from my shop-vac in there. The vacuum cleaned it out pretty nice.

Just washed my filter, it had alot of crud in it only a year old. Don't disconnect the yellow plug on the top of the glove box when accessing filter. Just pull out the two fasteners on the base. Washing is cheaper.

Why shouldn't you disconnect the yellow plug?
