Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think traction control was an option on manual transmission.

Traction control in a manual is called "feathering the clutch".....

this is correct, BUT they did have option for HLSD, which IMO is FAR better than any traction control system

The maxima TCS on the auto is simply there to cut wheelspin. Anyone who has taken their car to the track knows that you need wheelspin for a good launch. But, wheelspin in moderation, too much and your run is toast. The TCS on the autos kills it completely on the sticky track surface. With the manuals, just use the clutch appropriately and you will be sruprised.

I think that ... is referring to a stablilty control system more like VDC. The fact of the matter is, with a FWD car and our weigh bias, it will end up makin things worse.

I may be missunderstanding, but I think traction control and limited slip differential a different sorts of things. LSD is for distributing power among the wheels effectively during acceleration (particuarly in corners.) Traction control applies to all 4 wheels and uses the brakes independantly to bring the car back under control when sliding or spinning.
LSD or feathering the cluth only helps reduce wheel spin during acceleration from uneven traction. It does not help when spinning or sliding in the rain as traction control would.
Can somebody correct this?

If your car has the original tires on it, buy new ones. You'll feel like you have installed traction control.

My GLE runs great in the snow with the TCS on. It also works at highway speeds - 80MPH+ on wet or slippery surfaces, but it is a bit SLOW to engage.

Bottom line: my car is better

i was actually wondering if it was possible to install traction control in my 2k2 SE. the winters up in syracuse NY are HARSH and i got into an accident last winter b/c of all the damn snow.

i have the HLSD but didn't do much for me climbing hills and such in the winter. even feathering the clutch wasn't good enough. so just wondering

I don't think it can be done with a manual. There are too many variables that the ECU (clutch, clutch engagement vs. RPM output) doesn't control, and the sensors would have a hard time trying to keep up...

Unless you have a VW Jetta... even the manuals have TCS enabled!

Snowtires on some steel wheels should solve the winter worries, eddie...
