Lease Return Inspection... I got Raped!

My lease is up on my Maxima, so as always on a lease return you have to get it inspected. I live in LI NY, so when he came over I knew he was going to charge me. Anyway this is the thing... According to him I have to do the following repairs:

1. Repaint Back Bumper
2. Repaint Front Bumper
3. 2 Dings on the door

All of this he charged up to be 640$

My question is I live in NYC does anyone know where I can get this done for a cheap price? Also the inspection company is asking to see reciepts of all the jobs. Lastly, how much am I looking on spending to get all these things, once again I dont need it to be the best of paint jobs, just something that will last me a month or two.

$640 sure sounds like a fair price to have both bumpers refinished and 2 dings removed. We get 300 or more per pannel. Thats min. $600 just for the bumpers. Dings, if they can be removed by a paintless dent wizard will be $75 each, my cost. Not for nothing, but your getting a very fair deal.

I agree, that seems resonable.

yea, do you think it will be worth it, I mean, my back bumper is really messed up, but the front one has a 10 inch scratch that maybe like 1\2 inch in width, so I dont know why he put down to repair the whole bumper

Went they paint they gotta paint the whole bumper, if they only paint the scratches then it will look very messy cause the paint won't blend in. It usually cost about $250 a bumper.

$640? Even at Maaco, you will only save $100 at the most. Let the dealership do it.

I would agree....$640 seems quite fair, especially at dealership prices

I agree, that's not a bad price from a dealer. Why would you spend an extra $100 on a car that you're turning in though?

On a side note, i would trust Macco before i would my local Nissan body shop. Mike Shad Nissan has to be one of the worst body shops in the Country.

See thats the thing, This was a 3rd party, was not nissan, So I have 20 days to appeal it. What I was thinking of doing is painting the back bumper, trying to get the dings out, and somehow touch up the front bumper, because he only found 1 big scratch about 10 inches in lenght tand 1/2 inches in diameter

I'm going to disagree with the charge.

First off, it really depends on how badly your front and rear bumpers were scratched.
(you may want to consider learning to drive better if this was your fault)

As for the door dings, DO NOT LET THEM CHARGE YOU FOR THAT!!

Look at your contract, it will most likely say, "normal wear and tear" is acceptable.
A couple of door dings in 4 years is NORMAL.

My VW contract said I was allowed 2 door dings on each side, up to the size of a quarter!

I would fight that charge.
First, door dings are NOT YOUR FAULT.
Other people do them, and it's often times unavoidable.
If they think ANYBODY can drive a car for 4 years without a door ding or two, they are fooling themselves and call them out on it.

Look at the cars on their used lot.
And then tell them "rest assured, I'm confident a judge will find 2 door dings in 4 years falls well within the definition of "normal wear and tear."

You should of taken thourough pictures of the car at the time of inspection as well. This is your insurance.

My VW was pretty much flawless until the week before I turned it in.
I thrashed on the car something FIERCE.
Scratched up even the rims from laying it around corners too hard.

I had zero door dings (I'm a freak about parking away from others though) but had a handful of rock chips on the front, and I even cut out the center rear seat belt as well as lost the center rear head rest.

I wasn't charged a thing upon turn in.

Fight those charges for the door dings and if the scratches on the bumper were realitively minor too.

thnx for the advice man.... I mean, these people i think work on commission so the more they find the more money they make. Also Like I said the back bumber is totally bad, thats becuase I park it NYC, and here you cant go without having scratches. The front bumper has a 10 inch scratch that could be fixed without painting the WHOLE bumper. SO I think I should dispute that and the door dings.

All these charges are "negotiable". In other words if you ***** enough about the door dings they definately won't charge ya. As for the bumpers, at least the fron bumper, I know they have those mobile refinishing services. Maybe they can at least hide the front scratch.

Just take it to Maaco, Hell that's who has the repainting contract with most Nissan's in the USA.

I think you should just let the dealer take care of it. How bad would it be if after you go elsewhere to fix it up, the dealer still has a problem with it.

I don't think it's worth your time and trouble.

Good Luck!!!!

Im on my 3rd lease with Nissan, and I have not once had to pay anything. Hell, Ive even got money back.

It all depends on your dealership. I have never had a lease inspection done. As an example my 2000 Altima SE that I had b4 the 2003 Max.

Rear bumper had a foot long section of clearcoat smudge here some sh*thead rubbed me.

Front bumper had similar mark, along with a chunk taken out of rim. To have it fixed when it happen I was told $880.

A few dents in doors.

What was I told when I gave it back? Dont worry about it.... And i drove away in a Maxima.

Im not sure if it is just this dealership that does this or Nissan, but you basicly get any damage up to $500 taken care of.

Serafini Nissan-Volvo in Vestal NY.. Love them.. both sales and service dept..

I agree here. Negotiate with them, if they meet you 1/2 way, pay up and run. Argue the door dings as normal ware and pay for the bumpers.

... get off it, jack-a-s-s.

Anyway, I handed in a blazer that looked perfect. They tried to tell me it needed paint on the front bumper and it had a dent on the hood. Long story short, they eventually admitted they expected to make a certain amount off it when I handed it back in and the market for a blazer had "softened" and they needed to recover some money.

There is no way I'd pay for what you're describing unless the damage on the bumper is really bad and you caused it. No way I'd pay for 2 door dings.
