maf sensor replacement tools

So I went to pepboys this morning (BTW i saw a lowered 2k2 or 2k3 from rpm motorworks in chino hills, just wondering who you are and nice rims... i parked in front of you) and asked for that hex tool to remove the MAF sensor. They didnt have it. I go to Kregan, they didnt have it. Then I went to a nissan dealership and they dont sell the blasted tool. Anyone know where i can get one? Imma try cleaning my MAF before i go out and replace it. Thanks. I might ask Dave B on monday if he sells the tool.

I used a pliers and it was pretty simple. The threads are fairly large so it'll unscrew within a few turns. I didn't use needle nose pliers, I used regular pliers with a flat edge.

If you have a problem, e-mail me and I'll send you a photo.

its either a 20 or 25 security torx bit. just use that and a bit driver and it will come right out. i would personally recommened using electronic parts cleaner because it will clean the sensor and also is safe for the plastic that surrounds it.

you should be able to get it any sears, local hardware store or even lowes or home depot. it might be a part of a kit of torx bits and screwdriver bits. just make sure its the security one because the regular wont work.

Thanks fellas. Well, I just got some pliers and twisted the crap outta the screws. I replaced them with regular screws.
It gave me a chance to clean the MAF and damn... it worked. My car is back to normal. There was so much dust particles that everytime I ran a Q-tip over it, the Q-tip came back with some dirt. I sprayed it with TB cleaner directly at full blast. I hope I got most of the crap out.

Just wondering... - were you able to actually take the MAF out of the assembly or just turned it to get access to the metal leads?
When I cleaned my TB, I tried to pull MAF out to clean, and could not do that, so had to turn it 180 degrees...

The MAF sensor is inserted into the black tube with an "O" ring, so if you would have kept twisting and pulling up, it would come out (obviously AFTER you took the screws out!!).

I did try turing and twisting it (of course, with screws out), and pushing it out but I was afraid I'd brake something. So, not knowing the price I am risking, I decided to leave MAF in the tube.

Take two flat head screw drivers and ply out each side at the same time. Sounds difficult but its easy.
