Need guidance on getting knock fixed

2000 GXE

Background:
82k currently
ran 87 oct. gas for two months bout a year ago (car ran great till bout 4 months after that)
got 60k service (at 70k) dealer said plugs were good to 105 k (did not change)
change oil regularly

Problem:
can knock and ping up hills or under hard acceleration but is not a consistent problem

other morning it sounded like it was a kid with asthma struggling to breathe

performance has been going down hill for awhile, its just sluggish and the 60k service didn't do S**t to fix it...

Need some suggestions please something I can say to the mechanic to fix the problem... Thanks!

Try 93 octane fuel and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks Jonbth, but we don't have 93 octane here in CA. Super is 91...
