Options have diminished

My initial plan was to get an '02 Maxima SE 6-spd for around $18k. But now my budget is going to be around $15,500 maximum. So I'm thinking '00 SE 5-spd.

Any comments or considerations on this car are welcome. I hope to be part of the Maxima family shortly.

if you want a good laugh, the dealer near me has a 2000 5-speed on the lot for $20,999

I drive by it every day and keep thinking I should go tell them they have the price marked wrong on that car.

Its unbelieveable that these 2k's are going that high, its the same story
@ the dealerships my way- they fock people on the trade ins and try
to retail them so high-
Hey ABDomega- do yourself a favor and continue to look for a 2k2
(even if its auto) Its so much more torque and in the end you'll be happier- they can be found for as low as $17k- And believe me they are
out there and can be negotiated-
If you're gonna over pay for a 2k- I personally would get a '99(4thgen)
and save mad loot and pimp it out to your taste-
Whatever you choose -good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion, however an automatic transmission is out of the question. If I wanted an auto I would just replace my old TL with a '00 TL. Can't stand the slushy so I need the 5-spd. Hopefully the price is right. I feel confident in the guy who is going to pick out the car for me so I'm content.

Alright then - just be aware that the 2k's have ignition coil problems- the 2k1's supposedly fixed that problem and the AE's are supposed to have 227hp rated engine as opposed to 222hp(2k-2k1 non -AE)
As long as you are content is all that matters in the end- Godd luck & keep us posted! Holla!

Are the ignition coil problems worth eliminating the car from my selections? I can't find an alternative car and I don't want some stupid little thing like this to ruin my chances of enjoying the car. I think the 2001 will be out of my price range (I'd like the car to be leather and well equipped for under $16k.

Worst case, you'll have to replace all the coils on an '00 for ~$60-70 times 6... I'm not sure if mine have ever been replaced (got 41K on a 2K SE 5spd I bought last June), but they haven't failed during the time I've driven it...
