people keep talking about "the powerband"
exactly what rpm range *is* the powerband in an '02 6-speed?
thanks
....and yes I searched and got ,000 pages that all said "felt more gains through the whole powerband" but none that specified what that range was.
thanks

It really depends, I don't have a dyno sheet with me, but from my daily driving experience.
I start to feel power to build up from 2500 RPM, 3000 is pulling good, 4500RPM (Variable Intake opens) Engine is roaring like a monster at this point all the way passing 5800RPM (Max HP), till 6400RPM Redline.
I did this WOT 2nd gear(redline), 3rd(redline), ease off on 4th gear. doing about 110~120MPH at this point. It almost feel like a small V-8. It will sound even better when I put on my EVO CatBack.

redline is at 6600....for the 3.5 max hp is at 5800, so if you pass that a lot, you'll start loosing power again, but i guess to really get the best out of it, dont go more then 6300, cuz at that point you're 500rpm after max...so you still got lots of power.
btw, i just redline mine, doesnt matter to me really, i still feel the power at redline just like my 01

IIRC, the VI opens at 3800 on the 3.5L...

Dang, max HP RPM on the 3.5L is 5800? Makes the 2K/2K1's max HP RPM of 6400 seem a little nice... however it also further asserts the importance of the VIAS for the 2K/2K1 engines... gotta have that working properly up there to feel the power!

It depends on where you land AFTER the shift. You should hold the gear, ie not shift, until the spot where you will land for the next gear has more torque then horsepower or something like that. I'm sure some 1/4-mile gurus will be here shortly to correct me IIRIC.
VQ30s are easy since they just keep climbing, so you shift as close to redline as possible without bouncing the revlimiter. VQ35s peak at 5800ish STOCK, but with mods it's closer to 6000-6200rpm IIRC.
However, with the new TechnoSquare ECU, Maxima VQ35s peak closer to their redline more like a 350z does.

so the rpm range would best be described as ...
a) 4000-6400
b) 3400-6400
c) 3400-5800
d) 4000-5800 (hope not)
e) other
I'm looking for the best-fit description... if someone says "maxima '02 powerband" they mean _____rpm to _____rpm.
thanks!

3800-6400 RED(modified ECU)
I'm not sure if that's going to help with what you're asking though.
