I hate Nissan right now!
Im on my 4th stereo and the left channel keeps going out. I've had my car 20 months and for 17 months Ive had problems with my car. Its really frustrating to lose my car for 2 days to get it "fixed" only to have the problem re-appear within a month. I hate Nissan and I hate Boss.
Nissan Headquarters "customer service" has been useless and their solution of putting in a fixed broken refurbished stereo is crap. Im currently waiting the standard 24-48 hours for a supervisor to call me back and see what other options I have. At this point Im thinking out just getting out of my lease early and just never getting a Nissan ever again. I hate them.
Does anyone has any suggestions or do I just keep putting broken stereos in my car until the sun sets at just the right angle and I wind up with a WORKING STEREO? This is Nissan's top of the line GLE and its pure crap. Im so mad.

I am getting mine replaced for the first time in two weeks.
I told the dealer about this problem but they insisted on replacing the tweeter thursday and yesterday of course it acted up so they ordered a new headunit for me.

I am now working on my third head unit. Both times, I had CD skipping when it's cold out, and left channel speakers working only when they feel like it. What annoys me is that I have to make two trips to the dealer each time--one so they can inspect it, and another one when they finally get the radio delivered. I can't believe they don't stock these radios, but the service manager says they just don't see too many problems like mine. Does anybody know if this is strictly a Maxima phenomenon?
Everybody keeps talking about putting in an aftermarket system. Problem is, nobody makes a good looking in-dash 6 disc changer combination unit. I have no interest in a remote changer, and I love the look of the factory unit. What kind of aftermarket systems is everybody looking at?
Had my first replacement done about three months ago, for the left-side speakers cutting in and out when playing CDs. The new unit fixed that problem, but skips like crazy for the first 15 minutes or so of playing CDs, which the old one never did. So, now I'm having replacement unit two installed this week.

Also, it jumps back when you cross an SCV adjustment threshold, which can kind of startle you (suddenly loud).
Seems like the engineers desiging this unit tested their final design for about 2 seconds then shipped it out the door. Lame!

Only had my car 3 months and I just had my first unit replaced yesterday. Got in and saw there are two small divets on the top of the headunit as though they may have tried prying it out. Normally I'd say something, but the sad fact is I'm actually expecting to have to replace this stupid thing again sometime soon. It's one of the big reasons I got an extended warranty. A few replacements of the Bose outside of Nissan's standard warranty can really add up.

I just bought my 2002 Maxima SE and after a few days discovered there was a problem with the stereo, specifically the CD player cutting in and out on the drivers side speakers. I soon discovered that there was a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB reference NTB03-017 dated Feb19/03) issued by Nissan that identifies the problem as one that is common and obviously still is after reading this thread. My passenger rear speaker also does not work at all (on CD or radio) but I am not sure if it relates to the same problem with the head unit or if it is blown. I will find out once the dealer replaces the stereo in a few days. Thankfully I still have warranty that covers the replacement stereo. I have also had the problem of the CD skipping when the car is cold which I hope will also be gone once the new unit is installed. However, other than this issue with the stereo I do love the car.

I have the 2002 SE with the in-dash changer. I'm on my 4th HU. The original had the left channel CD problem about a year in. The first replacement wouldn't load CDs - just gave an error message.
The second replacement lasted about a year and then began with the same left channel CD problem.
The third (and currrent) replacement has worked fine for about 6 months.
If it happens again, I'm writing Nissan North America and demanding a refund of the $1,200 I wasted on the damn system. Slim chance, but still...

Is this something that the dealer has to be able to reproduce in order for it to be replaced? It's happened to me so many times but I finally said f' it cause i'm gettin a new system this summer anyway.
