Chunks of tires missing

I have stock Bridgestone Turanza EL42 tires, and the front tires have small chunks missing, kind of like they were tore out, they are in the direction of the tire. The back tires had a couple of chunks missing, but nowhere close to the front. Is this solely from spinning the tires, or what. Dealer said it was from spinning tires, which has happened, who hasn't. Just want to know if anyone else has had this problem?

As much as I hate to admit it I have the EL42's on my 02' GLE as well (replacing with 225/50 Pilot Sport A/S's next month though). That said, the current set has never been "driven real hard," have primarily highway miles and I have only hammered on them a few times since Sept. 03'. Bottom-line - I have no wear like you describe, nothing even close to that and the tread looks good. For the intended purpose (touring class) they are an acceptable tire but I wouldn't expect them to handle much beyond "average" use.

OK tires definitely should not throw blocks of tread. No matter how hard you spin them. Even if you burn out they should hold tread. That's BS from the dealer. Take it back (in someone else's car) and get your money or a different set of tires. Don't drive any further on them!

If you want to report the problem, look up NHTSA (National Hightway Transportation Safety Administration) on the web. It might trigger a recall. Remember the Ford - Firestone thing? Tires are serious business nowadays!

NO TIRES SHOULD EVER THROW CHUNKS OF TREAD!!!!!!!!
