Almost got killed 25 minuts ago, i am still shaking. I was going south on 94 highway in illinois when everybody starts braking. That was so quick, about 5 cars almost crashed. Guess why everyone was braking?
Some ****ing ******* in lincolne was going in the wrong direction. Can you be so stupid to take the highway in the wrong direction. I am so ****ed.

P.S. Just had to share with the .org, you just don't see something like that everyday. By the way my stock brakes did a good job, god bless them.

I run I94 between Milwaukee and Chi-town often, the only thing that surprises me is that there were'nt two Lincoln's going in the wrong direction. Bad roads everywhere (drivers, congestion, etc.) but 94 from the WI to IN state lines is a friggin' 90MPH+ war zone. Glad your safe and postin'!

Old man tells his wife "I'm going to the city for a while, I've got my phone if you need me" and leaves. Wow, that sucks. We had a old man around here miss an exit on I81 and stopped in the middle of the road (this is a bussy 2 lane high way) and backs up! Killed his passengers and hurt himself real bad!

 

man.. i know how it is man.. i take that highway almost every day... there are some stupid people on the road.. i don't understand how they got their lincenses but somehow they got them... i actually got into an accident right off the e-way.. some dumb *** tried to switch into my lane while i was going like 60 without signals or headlights.. it was some crappy 91 accord.. i quickly turned and he smashed into my side.. i broke a tire rod and busted up my fender and door.. and wanna know the worst part of all.. the guy didn't have insurance so i ended up paying for everything.. and till this day.. that mother ****** has not paid me for the damages that he caused... this was about 2 years ago..

my point is.. juss be careful when you drive in Chicago..

the guy had no insruance, he was defiitely a moron and if he didnt pay for insurance, what made you think he was going to pay you?

hahaha its so true tho - old people (really old) shouldnt be on the road! i've almost been hit numerous times. Glad you're ok tho... that would scare the crap outta me too

 

well about two weeks ago i went to pick up my parents from a party , it was around 3am . i am waiting at a red light when i see this on coming green minivan get so close to me , nearly taking off my side view mirror i quiclkly move to the side and he hit the car behind me, in the car i had about 7 people including me, one if them was a pregnant lady so i was shaking a ll the way home just thinking if that car was me that got hit.

I hate to say this but I do see certain demographics (besides the elderly) that tend to have difficulties safely operating motor vehicles. However, I don't want to offend anyone here that may fall into the categories I'm thinking of.

That said, going in the wrong direction on a major highway is flatout IDIOTIC!!

Jeez, give the young a break. You wouldn't believe all of the people who would scream and flail their limbs at me when I first started freeway driving. I mean damn, cut an 8 year old kid some slack.

sorry it took so long to respond.. but.. i did take the guy to court and the judge ruled in my favor.. this guy has just been "MIA" (missing in action) for the last 2 years... ehhh.. oh well.. if they ever find this guy.. this guy is going to jail fosure.. and on top of that.. he has to pay me my $$$ too..

Whose head that story about the old couple who was reported missing for like 3 days? It was snowing and they were headed to their daughters house. Twist is the daughters house was like a few blocks or miles away and they werent missing, they were just circling the neighborhood for like 3 days....

The truth is everyone out there could be a bad driver @ any moment- So just try to be as safe as possible and keep your eye out for for crazy people-
Thats what makes a bad driver people that let their emotions take over the fact that they are operating a dealy weapon

True- most of the a-hole drivers I encounter everyday are older people cutting me off/ or driving recklessly prob mad that I'm driving a nice car- I'm 26 and I appear young looking- I was driving home in the rain last night keeping ~3-4
car length behind a Taurus(in moderate traffic) and as we approach a light he speeds up and pulls to the next lane and Flips me the bird- I'm thinking WTF is

I agree that there are plenty of old people who are bad drivers, I just added that there are also plenty of young people who are bad drivers.

Plenty of people here are showing grudges against old people, why can't I have one against young people? I'm not saying that young drivers are the only group of drivers who are bad, I adding to what F23A4 had said, that old drivers aren't the only group of bad drivers.
There's a reason young drivers have high insurance rates, especially those with the high school dream car: the f-body or 'stang. I can't stand the kids who think it's cool to do a burnout on the night of Halloween or insist on hitting 60mph every day on the residential street before they pull into their driveway.

 

Certain things are a given:

The elderly in general are going to have more impaired physical abilities than younger people; it's not agist, rather it's just the nature of human beings: we peak and then deteriorate with age. For safety reasons, being retested periodically is a good idea starting @ age 65.

As for the young (as in 21 y/o and younger), it's a fact that this demographic DOES NOT have the same driving experience (in general) as those who have been driving for say...10 years or so. So accidents are more inclined to occur with this group. I myself had a few accidents while in that age category but, haven't had one since. I wasn't intentionally trying to be reckless; rather I just wasn't as aware of my driving environment as I needed to be in order to avoid the accidents. Now in my mid-30s, I know I'm better than the 19 y/o F23A4.

That said, I know there are young and old people that DO drive better than the people in my 26-40 demographic. Hopefully, my son and parents fall into those categories.

On the heels of what Coolmax stated, my son (now age 13 and looking forward to getting his license in 4 years) will not drive ANY car without me or my wife riding shotgun until he turns 22.

I think the distraction factor has alot more to do with accidents than the age/experience. It is easier to get distracted (or pay attention) if you treat the car as a given. What I mean is that the majority of us as car enthusiests like driving just for the sake of it. Sure, we can be reckless nd down right stupid at times, but I doubt very seriously we are weaving in and out of traffic talking on the cell phone while busting out the jams on a daily basis the way some tend to do.

My grandparents are touching 80 and drive lilke normal, sane people. They pay attention to their enviroment and act accordingly. I am 26 and drive too fast, but tend to think I concentrate on what is going on more than the average driver.

 

I have a rule ( I don't use cellphone on the highway or during agressive driving)
Why? Because i have to pay attantion to the road.

No the absolute worst are the kids with lowered cars and with 1000 watt stereos crankin' with their seats reclined so far they can't see over the steering wheel.
They can't hear or react to an emergency situation any faster than an 80 yr old but they choose to be in this position.

The kid up the street from me has totalled 2 cars so far this year in one car accidents!!! Now that takes talent!!

I just watched a show about this 72 yr old guy in Atlanta who can hustle his Yami R1 around faster than most people dream of!!

IMHO, Most driving errors by elderly citizens are probably caused by some confusion or memory failure and then realization of the error which panics them into making the situation worse.
Most driving errors caused by younger citizens are due to attempting manuevers out of their ability level ... 10ft tall & bulletproof!!

Which is worse? An elderly driver making an honest error or a younger driver trying something stupid that they know they shouldn't or can't do!!

older people's reaction time is much slower in most cases. they also seem not to pay attention to anything. You know how many times an old person has cut me off badly (less then a foot in front of my car) and has not reacted AT ALL to any of my signs (high beams, honking). The young ones do know what they're doing, although sometimes they really shouldn't be doing that. Being 19 I was hit by some 25+ y.o. punk that didn't check his blind spots. Also, there's numerous times i have almost been crashed into by old people. The only reason I still haven't is because when I see them driving I start paying MUCH more attention to what they're doing and either slow down or change the lane.

So why isn't their insurance as high???
