advanced timing.

Brought car into dealership and asked them if they could do the advanced timing and they gave me some BS that it wasn't possible. Then they put the technician on the phone and he said the same thing but he said he did the drop resistor mod on his Max and he claims he gained about 10 HP. Trying to get him to do a few things on the side such as drop resistor mod and swap out springs.
I've heard that if you reset the ECU it's beneficial for the ECU to learn and adjust to the performance mods which have been done. Anyone agree/disagree please give some info.

people who've had their timing advanced are still arguing over whether it did anything.... some swear by it, some have had it put back to factory and claim they got back power... you'll have to read/search and do the math yourself. And it's definitely possible but that doesn't mean they *have* to do it for you.

resetting the ECU shouldn't hurt anything, and may help speed the process of learning after a mod. You can do it anytime.

I thought the drop resistor mod just made quicker shifts, so he's not actually feeling a gain in HP, but his car is accelerating faster because the tranny is slipping less.

see if the tech will do your stuff and not record that he did it that way if something goes wrong, nissan doesn't "officially" know

the drop resistor mod certainly doesnt give any power. just decreases shift time. as for advance timing, it seems that only a select few dealerships will do this for ya.

Thanks for the input. I tried to slip the tech a little extra money to do a few things while the car was apart but he refused and said he could do it after work. That'd be perfect to get in good with the tech.
