Maxima 3.5VQ vs Altima 3.5VQ

While I don't do racing on public streets, It was late (2am) I had the chance to run the V6 Altima. First run, he had me but by 1 car length. Second run, he does the jump the light thing..and I couldn't catch him I would say he had about 4 car lengths on me. (light to light we was going at it.) Third run I decided to do things differently since im an auto I decided to use my gated shifter well this run I was pleased with, I had him by 4 car lengths...But for all three runs I had my windows down and radio off, now Im no stick driver but I coulda swore I heard him pressing his clutch and shifting his car into gear(little clicking noise).... reason for bringing this up is because after the last run I asked him if he was auto or manual, he said auto...told him I was auto. I think he was lying what do you guys think...cause the first two runs he got the jump on me and its not like I wasnt paying attention...

Should be about the same times-same engine and tranny and weight. Maybe he was shifting manuallywith his auto each time?

Ya, that's probably what he was doing shifting 1..2... that's why you probably heard the car shift. But if you heard loud clutch noises then maybe he was a stick and just didn't want to admit it for some reason. I highly dought he was stick beacuse you wouldn't have been able to beat him by three cars on that last run. Stock Auto vs Stock Stick, stick wins all launches.

I don't know everything there is to know about racing, but I think you should do everything you can do to win. It's an Altima, just because they grew up a little bit, doesn't mean they should be able to beat us. I always try to show them what's up. I don't think I've ever driven against one that had someone in it that wanted to race, but I would like to.

I know that they are close, but shouldn't we still be able to always win? Stock to stock?

I've raced a 3.5 (Auto) Altima 3x at the track and beat him by 2 car lengths each time.

If I recall correctly I think the 60ft times were about the same as well.

As always, depends on the driver. With my crappy 60' times, I'd probably still lose in my 6speed

There is no comparison between the stick and the auto..if he were a 5 speed you would have lost for sure. Auto to auto..in theory..it should be a drivers race. Just my opinion..but, I am confident I am correct :

Same horsepower, almost same weight, altima weights 50 pounds more. You'll were probally same transmission. The 5-speed in the altima is faster than the the 6-speed in the quarter. So I am guessing he is auto.

There is one guy (scottlny) on Altimas.net from the NYC area with an auto 3.5SE that ran a 14.6X second ET. Maybe you guys could hookup and go to Etown; if you do, let me know.

Also, have you guys seen the time Stan W (Altimas.net) ran with his auto 3.5SE? Some how he pulled a very impressive 14.57sec ET all stock?

definitely heard some type of noise, I have friends with stick cars, it sounded similar to when they put thier cars into gear, thats why I thought he might be lying...

times for autos vs. sticks arent that much difference. its still a drivers race. from a roll, the stick would probly pull a bit, but its still the same engine, just different gearing. this is all in stock form of course
