Windshield Wiper Help
Windshield Wiper Help
My windshield wipers are getting streaky. When it rains and I turn the wipers on, it leaves these oily like streaks or smears across the windshield. It makes it hard to see in the rain. I tried to wash the windshield, and the wipers, and its still like that. I remember that they used to wipe so clean like one of those squeegy(sp?) things.
Anyone else have this problem?? Im thinking of changing wipers because of this. Any suggestions on what to get?
Thanks!

In a word: Rain-X.
Apply to windshield now and then, and replace wipers w/ the OEM part, they're cheap, and they will work great on the rare occasion when you will need them if you use the Rain-X occasionally.
I had the same problem you are having after having my (then) new car for barely 10K miles. Put new wipers on, bought at the dealer, used Rain-X occasionally, and then have had no problem ever since. Good luck whatever you do.

rain-x has it's merits, but IMO it has more negatives.....mostly that of being horrible at night in so far as glare goes......you don't look out the windshield seeing road, lights, trees, cars, etc... you end up seeing a nice bright reflection of your dashboard...

Yeah, just buy the PIAA refills and you can use the stock wipers. For your info, you'll need to buy a 26" and a 17" blades.

If you have that kind of problem with Rain-X, you haven't applied it properly. You have to buff it out, even more than buffing out wax. After you think you're done, keep a CLEAN dry towel in the car. Face it toward the sun and look for streaks. Night time will show places where you haven't buffed as well, as you pass by lights. Finish buffing out those spots, and you'll be fine.
Also, if you start to see areas (usually where the wipers change direction) that the water isn't beading up anymore, it's time to re-apply.

I dont know if you can get cheaper prices somewhere else, but I got mine from www.optauto.com. Good luck!
