If he has a non-CAI intake, it should be functional.

there is no close up unfortunately. I wish I had gone to see that car first hand... its sharp lookin other than the scoop. But if its functional, I guess it makes it a little more ok.

This is kinda OT but I'll be up at UCONN not this weekend but next for the football game. I'm guessing you go there, if so I'd be more than happy to meet up and BS about Maximas for a bit.

I am SOOOOOO sick and tired of people using the above lame argument to defend all of the extremely stupid things people do to their cars.

Bigdo said it looks fugly......and you know what? He's 100% right. A hood scoop on a quasi-luxury car, regardless of functionality is totally gay.

Ya I'll be around this weekend - if you wanna meet up for a few and discuss Maximas I'd be up for it. I meet ya before 10 am or after 11 am... Have practice from 10-11 tho. If ya wanna meet me somewhere, lemme know.

There's no measure of what's gay and what isn't really. If we all had no personality or uniqueness, we'd be driving cars shaped like boxes, all the same color and shape. Utility would be more important than style, but we like what we like. I'm not a big fan, but what I do I know about jack or ****....

I think the hood scoop is way cool and very unique, more than many of us can say for our upgrades which we've seen 100 other people do and read How-To articles so we don't screw our cars up.

It takes ***** to do what you think is cool regardless of what others may think and to cut big holes in your hood takes some ***** to. This mod looks totally cool on the big 5th gen, regardless of whether the car is suppoesed to be a luxury sedan or not!

We all bought Maximas because we wanted something somewhat practical but didn't want to give up our sportscar style and driving habits. We're all obviously trying to make it more of a sportscar and that's totally cool.

It's also a very good way to get cold air to your non-cai cone filter without putting your filter in a suspiciously water sucking area.

and you know what that "cold air" will do for performance? d!ck!!

Hmmm, I wonder why Nissan went to the trouble of making the stock intake suck cold, clean air from in front of the radiator. Hmmm - BECAUSE IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE! You obviously know ****!! about this topic.
I'm sure whoever's car that is with the scoop has figured out how to prevent water from entering.

Maybe you don't understand because your 2000 doesn't make enough power for cold air to make a difference.

how come he gets to say **** and I don't?

listen newbie
get a few more posts and learn something before you talk ****. yes you have a bigger engine..and? i still know more about both of our cars then you do.
if you really wanna figure out who knows more look around and read some threads ive posted in. then tell me i dont know anything.

that scoop will not make a diffirence..and ill explain why not. ill keep it simple so you understand. to increase performance you have to increase the volume of air in the cylinder. yes that scoop will increase the amount of air that flows FREELY into the intake...but it is still restricted by the throttle body and intake manifold. those are the things that determine the amount of air that can pass into the cylinders. you can get around this by increasing the speed of the air going in. you FORCE more air in (forced air induction) with a super or turbo charger.

so like i said..that scoop does d!ck for performance.
now go learn a few things before you wanna start an argument with someone that knows for more then you do.

one last think..the color of your car is not "satin silver" its SHEER SILVER (paint code KY0)

I was not saying that a hood scoop alone will or should increase performance. I was also just observing that whoever installed that one we're talking about had an original and somewhat interesting idea.

If he likes it, that's all that matters. Soem people like huge body kits and stereos. Some people like 24 inch chrome spinners. Some people like big trucks with off-road tires. Some people like pickup trucks with hydraulics and dayton wire wheels. If you think it's cool, it's cool. That's all that I'm saying.

Physically speaking, if your intake tube was connected seamlessly to a hood scoop (ideally the same dia as your intake tube), I believe that would be some form of 'ram air". As the car gained speed, more air would pass over and into your scoop, forcing a bit more air into the intake tube, effectively forcing more air into the engine. The MAF should adjust timing/fuel to take advantage of this slight increase in pressure. At 100mph, for example, this has to have some effect.

I am certainly aware that true forced induction employs the use of a turbine powered from the exhaust pressure or crankshaft and is one of the best bolt on ways to increase HP and Torque. I'm not saying a "ram air' setup is going to provide 10psi of boost and give you 400 hp, just that it could possibly allow the engine to suck air more effeciently.

Whatever. I don't even really care if anyone agrees with me or not. I'm not going to put a hood scoop on . I'm happy with and am going to stick with my Cattman setup.

I did not mean to offend soonerman, only to drive the point that clean, colder air seems like a good idea.

Yes, soonerman totally busted me on the sheer silver/satin silver thing and 2000 maxes are really not much slower that 03s. He would probably smoke my practically stock ride on the strip in his 00 with his mods and stuff.

I don't even know what color car I have. Thanks for the clarification. I'm going to update my profile I guess so I don't look like such an idiot...

Keep it real homies.

an air scoop isnt to physically push more air into the engine, boy genius. **** for performance? since when is density not a wanted attribute of intake air? denser, colder is what allows for more healthy breathing on an intake stroke, and ultimately higher output.

just cuz you know about these two cars, 3.0l and 3.5l, doesnt mean you know about cars

check and mate. p.s i've only got like 80 posts i bet- i dont even keep track.

Why do people have to refer to stuff as being gay??? It's not pink or have feathers on it. It isn't flirting with you... I think the scoop makes a statement. I would worry about the water that could enter and get relays and stuff all wet...
